His-bundle pacing

I was scheduled to get a pacemaker on the 18th. My cardio calls today to tell me that he doesn't think we should do it the way we had originally planned. He said that by doing it that way, it could potentially cause my heart to weaken as time went on. He said he talked to my Electrophysiologist and they agree that I should have it done a different way. He has a very strong Indian accent and I did not understand everything that he had said. Iv'e been doing some research and from what I did catch, they will either be doing an ep study, His-bundle branch pacing or both. I'm currently waiting for the EP to call me and give me the details.

I'm trying to get as much info as I can so when he calls I can kind of know what he is talking about. The EP study has a lot of information about it but the His-bundle doesn't have much aside from case studies which are hard to understand. If anyone has had it done or has any information about it, I would greatly appreciate it. I mainly want to know how well it works and if there is much of a difference during surgery. The cardio did say that it wasn't much longer if at all. Thank you.

His bundle pacing

If you do a search (upper right corner), there have been a lot of conversations about it here. It's easier on the heart, and it's getting more common. It's great news that your doctor wants to do it that way.

His-bundle pacing

It sounds like you're getting good advice. It involves putting a lead into the his bundle which is part of the heart's electrical conduction system and this produces a much more natural and physiological contraction of the ventricles. Standard right ventricular pacing increases the risk of heart failure in the future especially if the ventricle is paced more than 40% of the time and this can be avoided with his bundle pacing. The procedure uses a standard pacemaker and may take a little longer but not by much.

The main thing is to check that the EP has done this technique before on at least 10-20 patients. You can find more information on the website www.his-pacing.org

Click on the small magnifying symbol in the top right hand corner of this screen and enter the word his and some options will appear to get you to other comments from club members.

Good luck!

I got better results with "bundle" than "his bundle"

Thank you.

Thank you. I found the magnifying glass and searched his bundle pacing and only one thing came up. It did have that site on it so I did get a chance to check that out. I will try the searches you have suggested. I think that is what they were talking about but he also mentions electrode mapping and I'm not entirely sure what that means. In everything that I have read about his bundle so far, it doesn't say anything like that. It may just be his terminology to explain what is going on. I guess I'll find out when the EP calls.
