Flying after pacemaker op

Hi

Any idea how soon you can fly after having your pacemaker inserted?

Want to plan a holiday for as soon as possible after I leave the hospital!

Thanks

You *can* fly right after. Some people fly to have the procedure done in a larger hospital and fly home the next day. You may not want to right away, tho.  Most feel pretty good within a few days but you'll have an incision to keep dry and some arm limitations. I'd wait at least a couple of weeks. Also ask your doctor. Complications are rare, but you wouldn't want to head off somewhere and have to turn around and go back home.

I'd want to wait at least until the first interrogation, about two weeks, just to make sure all is well and some setting changes aren't needed.

You don't want to walk around feeling bad on your vacation when you could feel much better with some setting changes.

You are not allowed to fly within 48 hours of insertion. ( longer if you have any complications, eg. pneumothorax.)

I would not want to fly until I was happy that my heart rhythm  was OK.

I would want to carry  my PM international ID card for the security.

I would not want security to wave their metal detector wands over my PM site ( nor especially to go through their metal detectors).

If you are flying internationally you should have health insurance for the vacation.

I would want to be reassured that in the event of a surgical implant wound infection there is medical help available. Likewise, if would be unwise to soak a wound until it is well healed and the scab is detached.
