Pre-dental prep.?

Has pacemaker necessitated prepping with antibiotics for dental procedures, i.e., cleaning, etc.?  Of course will ask my doctor tomorrow at inplant followup....just curious about general consensus.

Thank you for any feedback.

Not Necessary !

Years ago it was believed that PM implant patients should be given antibiotics prior to dental treatment but this no longer applies. .  It is now accepted that there is absolutely no evidence to justify the need for antibiotics.

So just lie back and enjoy !

There are still some heart conditions that premedicate, like valve replacement, but not having a pacer.

Dental Implants and pacemakers

Pacemakers have no bearing on having implants from an infection point of view. You need to be careful with some mechanical  dental intruments ( eg. ultrasonic cleaners) that they don't get too near to your PM. Generally, the dental practitioner will advise.

I asked my cardiologist this question before implanting an ICD.  I was told there is no need to pre-medicate.

You know you're wired when...

You play MP3 files on your pacer.
