1week after surgery

I keep reminding myself to look on the positive side of things. It is difficult at times though. I can be grateful I could get in the shower last night with very little help drying off. I just would like more physical strength to match my mental thoughts that tell me, I am able to do things when in fact physically I am not there yet.

In one week I go for my two week checkup. I am hoping by then I am much further along. Of course, I do need to remember I am not as young as I was the  last time and very bruised. Dr said he placed this one much deeper than last one.

The previous one was placed right under the surface of the skin.. This one is under the muscle.

If anyone has any thoughts on my rambling please feel free to comment.

Be patient with yourself

Hi!  I am new to this group and am three weeks post-surgery so I am fairly new to this game.  It took me two weeks to feel any increase in energy and my battery pack is close to the surface.  I am certain you will feel better soon if you are patient and don't overdo the activity.  I wished I could offer more informatiom but this is all very new to me.  Good luck!

My pacemaker surgery was just a bit over a month ago. I was trying to recover from congestive heart failure lasr December, so I was not in all that great of shape going in. The recovery has been a lot more difficult that anticipated. I guess my age (86) is a contributing factor, but up until the heart event I was a rather robust guy, still riding my motorcycle and working if a gig showed up. I was under the impression that the surgery was pretty much routine, after all, they do thousands of these things every year at the big city hospitals. I was told that the surgery would last about an hour and a half. It went for more than four hours. It was a b%&*+. I was scheduled to gome home on the third day, no way that could happen. I was way too weak and badly constipated. After returning home, I could not even get dressed or take a shower without a lot of help. On one occassion while still at the hospital I started experiencing thumping sensations in my left rib cage. Boy was that annoying, it would wake me up from a badly needed sleep. the man that delivered my home monitoring devise showed up and I asked him about it. He hooked me up to his computer and make an adjustment that turned out to be a temporary fix. The problem returned after returning home both in my rib cage and the left side of my back near my sholder. Since that time I returned to the hospital a couple of days ago and went through a lot of "tweaking" to minimize the problem. It still is there from time to time, but I am going to have to learn to live with it. It is not dangerous or life threatning. Three needs to be a lot of training for parients before leaving the hospital. Our knowledger level on the home monitor is virtually non existant. Another "no big deal" thing. Take it home and plug it in. Another bad surprise. I will close on apositive note. Thanks to the wonderful care by my wife, I am feeling a lot better, and gradually working my way back to a normalk level of activity. Walk the dog, ride the lawn tractor, but unfortunately my motorcycling days are over.
