Medtronic Home Monitor

I had my replacement implanted last Friday. I received a call from my Dr’s office telling me my new pacemaker has the ability to use a home monitor for my quarterly interrogations rather than going to my cardiologist office.

That makes me happy !!  Does anyone else use a Medtronic Home monitor? What’s your opinion?

love it

Mine is SJM rather than Medtronic but I love it! Honestly, I expected to hate it. At first, I didn't like looking at it and I like talking to my reps when they interrogate. I have it wrapped in a towel under the bed, only time I get it out is to send a download. A couple of times something odd happened, once I was having a biopsy near my leads, once I was headed to the ER. Each time I hit the button to initiate a download. The office got back with me and let me know what was going on, after the biopsy they confirmed my leads were still working normally, when I went to the ER instead of calling in a rep the doc was able to make a quick phone call so cardiac was ruled out almost instantly rather than hours later. Regular quarterly interrogations happen automatically, I get an email a couple of days later. Easy peasy.

No big deal

I have one of the monitors that will send in the report.  No big deal.  My EP has set up a schedule of when I'm supposed to use it.  I put the information into my online calendar, the calendar reminds me, I do the scan.

The data is sent via a VPN (Virtual Private Network) so I don't have to worry about someone hacking into the information.  My EP logs into a secure website and gets the report.  If any problems they call me and let me know - so far no problems.

It's really nice to not have to go into the office to get the scan.  My information is up-to-date with the EP and I can go about my normal business.

Others have the by-your-bedside unit that sends in a report every night.  I haven't heard of any problems with them either.

Hope everything goes well for you.

my device sends a report daily and includes data plus audio and video. Seriously, the doctors office called and asked me to please wear pajamas to bed and ask my wife to hold down the screaming.

I still get a quarterly download at the office. The main reason I accepted one after all these years is my device has the recalled exploding battery. I assume the download will go to the fire department if the worst happens

I think I’m going to like this. I do not like going to Dr appointments. So this might just be the answer for me.

Thank you all for your replies. I’ve been paced for 10 years, and remember when I first got my pacemaker back then, I was depressed about having heart issues. Since then, I’ve had aortic valve replaced due to stenosis, and diagnosed with congestive heart failure.

My heart issues still depress me, but I’m thankful I can come to this site and get info and sometimes get a good laugh

If keeping a box under my bed means I don't have to drive 4 hours to the hospital as often, that sounds good to me.

In fact after the final "tweaks" of my pacemaker programming at the one year check up it is working so well that I forget I have it.
