Low Blood Pressure

I went yesterday to have my 50k mile check up on my pacemaker. The pm unit itself is just fine. I will need a new one in about a year.

However, while doing the testing my blood pressure dropped suddenly on the treadmill, 80/50. She asked if I was dizzy and I said "I am always dizzy" which I am requently. So they drew some blood and are going to get back with me.

Apparently after a discussion this may have been going on for several months. I have lost weight recently but I am now in range of ideal weight instead of above it.

So my question is, why would my blood pressure just drop? Any thoughts would be helpful.

This is what http://www.webmd.com says about causes for sudden drop in blood pressure? Take a look and throw out those you know are not the cause of your problem. The remainder may give you some ideas about what to ask your doctor.

A reaction to medication or alcohol
Loss of blood from bleeding
Low body temperature
High body temperature
Heart muscle disease causing heart failure
Sepsis, a severe blood infection
Severe dehydration from vomiting, diarrhea, or fever
A reaction to medication or alcohol
A severe allergic reaction, called anaphylaxis

Me Too

I just made appointment with GP and Cardiologist today as my BP is erratic. From a low of 87/69 to a high of 153/69 in the space of an hour. I also almost passed out after a workout (mild). Keep us posted please and I will add to this thread what the Drs say. Thx to J.B. for the awesome list but none of those apply to me - except maybe the dehydration but had no vomiting etc. I just didn't have a lot to drink that morning as I was so busy running errands. I did drink a lot when I saw my BP was so low and then the BP stabilized the rest of the day. But the next morning it was low again.

weight loss

if you even lose 10 pounds it often affects your b.p. it is good to lose if you are overweight. i am on b.p. pills for many years. i have recently lost 23 pounds and my.b.p. has dropped significantly. i may need an evaluation later if i continue to lose. my goal is to be within the bmr for my age and height. so this might be your problem. jessie

Possible flu or virus

by ElectricFrank - 2009-10-09 12:10:54

I've been going through a bunch of flu like symptoms for several weeks and one of the problems has been a very erratic BP. About a week ago I took my BP every 15 minutes for a whole day to take to the doctors office. I didn't want to hit one of those times when it was up and have to try to get him to believe me about the low times. During that 14 hour period I was every where from 195/113 down to 85/49. These two readings were only an hour apart.

I've been drinking plenty of water so it isn't dehydration.

Since then I have talked to several people who have had similar symptoms, which makes me wonder if it is something going around.
