80 yr old
Today I was shocked to know that tomorrow my mother will get a pacmaker. Just about 3 1/2 months after I got mines. Don't know yet the exact specifics on why and what type of pacemaker.
I am worried because she is 80 yrs old. Does anyone know or has heard of someone getting a pacemaker at 80? Please let me know.

Hello Loyda, I had my pacemaker fitted the day after my 81st birthday. I was in a dangerous state and now I am fine. Of course, we can be in different states of health at such a time, but mother will most likely be a lot better soon. I do hope so, and that goes for yourself too.
Yesterday I was running round the garden, hiding from my great grandaughter and pretending to be a monster! I was fine, at 81. Best wishes.

My husband had a divine appointment the week after I got my pacemaker. He was seated next to the medical director for Medtronics' North American and European divisions. He is a physician and patiently answered my husband's numerous questions. During that conversation, he told my husband the typical age for a pacemaker recipient is around 77.
I like to think that I was an early achiever, having gotten my PM at age 55. It all depends on why you need one. Often, those who are older get their PMs for bradycardia. Those of us that are younger tend to have other problems, like mine, heart block.
I don't know why you or your mother has a PM but I suspect your mother's is for bradycardia. I'm sure she's in good hands and you can help her through these early weeks.
