Somewhat OT

Those US seniors on Medicare...any of you get a rather odd questionaire from your Medicare supplemental insurer recently? I recewived a 5 page questionaire that I find quite disturbing and while I may be over-reacting, it still leaves me unsettled. The questions seem to be geared toward whether I have pre-existing conditions and how my health is in general...just curious.

While the questions are supposed to be annonymous every page has several long numbers stamped on them which could easily be tied back to an individual

I have received similar, several times, even offering to pay me to fill out their report.  A few months ago, several health insurers were hacked, stealing personal records.  One of them was my company in another state.  They know plenty about me already from prior claims.  I am not going to offer more data that might be stolen/hacked or be used as an excuse to cancel my insurance if they decide that I am "high risk."

Suggestion

I am not affected by this but may I make a suggestion?

Call up Medicare and ask if you MUST fill this in or is it voluntary?   If you MUST, ask why and what about your on-going coverage?   Do not give out your name, its just an enquiry you'd like answered.

I agree with Jimmy, at first glance, but we had an issue with insurance before someone in the family died.

They kept sending forms to be signed that wanted the LTD insurance turned over to the government.  I delayed until they called and told me we had 10 days before they cancelled the government insurace (which was a slightly larger cheque).  In Canada, if you dont sign over the company plan to the government, you lose the government plan. They were in bed with one another. Crazy, crazy but at least I got a phone call.  Took the larger cheque of course.

They need to explain a bit more to you IMO.

Best Wishes and good luck,

Medicare does have some questions

by Gotrhythm - 2018-06-13 11:01:37

Okay, I'm sort of sharing my ignorance here, because I haven't talked directly to Medicare, but upon this last wellness visit with my GP in April, I was given a three page form to fill out mostly about how much I'm able to care for myself as best I remember. I also had to list every doctor who is treating me--five if you can believe it. I was also asked about "end of life" directions.

I asked why and was told that there are new Medicare compliance guidelines.

I also had a call about a year ago from my supplemental insurance wanting to send a nurse to interview me and make sure I was being appropriately treated and getting the home care I need. Stuff like who prepared my meals and did my laundry, who administered my meds. Again I was asked about "end of life" decisions.

It all felt very silly, since I'm pretty used to taking care of myself and my business. But again, I was told it was about compliance with new Medicare guidelines.

Questions

I decided not to respond. If it really is anonymous how will they ever know. If not they'll come knocking again...still troublesome

They have joined the fight against opioid abuse.  Yep, they joined the Gummint in the fight.  It will be their policy after 28 June that company-wide, they will fill no first prescriptions for narcotics that are more than a seven day supply!.  Not sure what they hope to gain.

Couple of observations - studies have shown that after a patient gets TWO prescriptions for narcotics, they are hooked.  Matters NOT what the days of supply were.  Second, Prescription Meds are plentiful on the streets.  Courtesy of the current crop of folks who sell their  Meds gotten because they are faking it successfully in front of their pain management physicians.  Nothing we have done has stopped the flood of meds on the streets.  We think we have the solution - a simple neuropathy test used on diabetics may help us weed out the fakes in the crowd.  let you know in a few weeks.
