Pacemaker

Hi folks.

Ive had my pacemaker for five years. I was rather obese at the time. I have recently lost 50lb in weight using the 5-2 diet plan.

Ive noticed that my pacemaker protrudes and the site is quite sore.

Has anyone else experienced this situation?

Thanks in advance.

Barry

Pacemaker bumps

Ever since the initial swelling went down, the outline of my pacemaker under my skin has always been completely visible. Lately, I've lost about 5 pounds, and since I have a small frame, five pounds is significant on me. I notice that the bump my pacemaker makes is even more apparent. If I lost a lot of weight, I'm sure the entire pacemaker would be visible.

I don't know what's making your pacemaker site sore. On me, the pacemaker moves quite a lot when I move my arms. Again, that might be more noticeable because my chest is relatively small. I know when I have been doing a lot of upper body exercise the pacemaker area will feel  a little sore/irritated.

If it was me, as long as there was no swelling, heat, or redness in the area, I wouldn't be concerned. I'd just watch it to see if it got worse. Oh, and keep my hands off it.

Pacemaker Bumps

My weight as a 6 footer back in 2012 was around 210. Original Medtronic PM implant in May 2012 showed a slight bulge.  It was replaced with a Medtronic Viva XT CRT-D in Jan 2015. The Viva XT is quite a bit larger than the original PM. Also, I'm currently down to 172 pounds (intentional weight loss) and the Viva really protrudes. Kinda like having a '57 Chevy implanted under the skin. BUT - no real pain or swelling. Only thing I have to watch is where the seat belt should strap rides.

Sore Bump

I've had a Medtronic CRT-P for four months.  The site is still quite tender (though not all that surprising - I still have pain on my left side from a sternotomy 3-1/2 years ago).  I can plainly see the outline of the pacemaker, too.  There isn't a lot of skin over it at all.  It's on top of the muscle and stitched in place.  I'm 5'-10" and 220lbs (down ~40 in the last year but only a couple since I got the PM).
