Cycling

I’m 5 week’s post implant, Medtronic Azure HIS Bundle pacing. I have chronic Afib so I’m 100% paced. Resting rate 50bpm, max 140 and ADL set at 95 and accelerometer set at low.  I’ve been riding my spin bike for several weeks with HR of 85-105...to go much higher I would need to spin at a quicker rate where my PM would realize I’m exercising....more rocking.  Today I went for first ride outside.  The roads in my subdivision or very rough...chip sealed...as I started out my HR quickly went to max 140 and would not come down. I quickly turned around and finished my workout on the spin bike.  I’m going to the Veloway in Austin in a few days to see how it reacts on a smooth surface.  Anyone else experience this or care to comment?

Rate response

It sounds like they have your rate response is too sensitive.  The Medtronic tech should be able to adjust it but then you'll be less sensitive when spinning, too.  There may be other settings they can change to help, too.

Bumps in the road

Rough surfaces can make the PM go faster. I get it somtimes whan I'm riding in a golf cart and hit a bumpy path. I can feel the PM take off. It can also happen in  car. My  EP even told me that whhen I'm playing tennis and my rate is not giong fast enough to hit and shake my PM to get it going faster. You may be set a little to sensitive right now, but they can make changes so you feel more comfortable.

When I first got mine I had to go in several time to get it set to my satisfaction. When you are on a smooth surface and your body is not moving a lot, it may not move the rate up to where you want it. I do a lot of biking and have no problems. We a taking a bike trip in Canada called le Petit Train Du Nord later this year. It's 125 miles.

Take your time. You will get to where you want to be.

Bumpy Ride

I have my max set to 150 and when I ride on very rough roads or downhill on a mountain bike my hr jumps right up to there. I asked my doc (1st one and present one) if it jumping up there was going to cause me problems and they have all said it should not. Not sure what they are basing that on, in both cases I was not very confident in the way they answered, but I have been ok so far.
