Motorcycle intercom

I just ordered a motorcycle intercom yesterday to keep in touch with my motorcycling friends. I really did not think about the pacemaker when ordering it so I am doing well!

I know we should be wary of mobile phones next to the unit but what about bluetooth intercoms? The unit will be about 6 inches from my implant site. I always keep my mobile on the opposite side of my body in a waist pocket.

After 19 months of being 100% paced I can't say I have encountered anything that causes an issue with my PM. I motorcycle a lot, vibey Italian V twin Superbike , change vehicle batteries if needed and microwave some meals! (i don't weld though).

I am just wary of finding an issue whilst out on my motorcycle. I am thinking of testing the equipment out initially whilst sitting on the sofa lol. Hope nobody walks in!

Anyone have a motorcycle intercom?  All info gratefully received.

  Thanks,

No worries.

I'm pacemaker dependent and wear an LG Bluetooth headset around my neck. My EP (enforced by SWMBO) has forbidden me from using the lawn tractor but had no issues with Bluetooth. The only warning was about headphones themselves resting directly on the PM. Some have very strong rare-earth magnets that may put the PM into MRI mode. Also, cell phones very near the PM may be problematic because of their much higher power (and the above problem).

no problem

Bluetooth isn't a problem. Phones aren't generally a problem either, newer pacers are shielded much better than the older ones and less likely to be affected. The magnet would have to be both strong enough and close enough. They say 6" with anything questionable to be safe but they pretty much have to be right on top of it to have an effect. Ever have to wiggle the puck around to get it in just the right spot to read when you have an interrogation? That's a magnet causing a mode switch. I've taken electronics (including my ipad with a magnetic cover) along to pacer checks and deliberately tried to get them to switch the mode, never once was able to do it.

I've been paced every beat for over 20 years and never once had an issue with interference. At first I was cautious but now I'm more than a little blase. I've ridden a tractor, jump started cars, run a generator in a hurricane, gone in the generator room of a water treatment plant, been on roller coasters. I've run with my ipod clipped over my pacer or with my phone tucked in my top. If something causes a mode switch, it shows up in the interrogation so we'd know. My doctor and pacer rep have both said not to worry about it, so I don't.

You can weld, just don't do ARC welding. Other types are ok.

Different frequency

Different frequency.  Pacemaker, phones, intercoms are all on different frequencies.  Won't bother your pacemaker a bit.

So it's vroom for you!

Thanks all!

Yep, tried the unit out sat on the sofa just in case but as said, no issues at all.

I have been out several times now with the unit on and I am fine.

Thanks for the replies guys, good to be part of this family!

I love this new part of me, and very, very thankful that this technology exists and I know that it's all only going to get better over time.
