Day 15 exercises

Day 15 after my CRT-D implant and things feel pretty good...are there any exercises or movements that will help to loosen or help my shoulder stay loose?...I can move it pretty well but keeping it basically below my shoulder seems to have tightened it up...almost feels like it pulls when I move it too far...any help will be appreciated as I would like to get back to golf when I get past the 6 week or appropriate recovery period...

What did the doctor say?

With a 3-inch gash in your shoulder just two weeks ago, it will pull when you move it too far. Give it some more time to heal.  It may take a little more time to your golf game back but you'll be fine.

Two weeks arm down then I can move it up, 6 weeks no golf..,the nurse said 6 weeks arm down then should be good to go...I am fine with whatever it is, just not wanting the shoulder to seize up...hoping to see others experiences

Exercise

For the first few weeks, I deliberately and regularly moved my arm and shoulder within the limitations that my doctor gave me.  As I walked my dog, I  swung my arm in an exaggerated manner; sometimes that hurt.  Another exercise is to stand by a wall and slowly crawl your fingers upward on the wall and you can see your progress over time.  I did not set a date to achieve a movement or activity because it took several months to recover from the ICD implant.  I think the key is to move, make progress and give your body time to heal.  Don't rush it - you'll get your golf game back!

Many doctors are reducing the amount of time they tell us not to raise the arm, that's why the doctor and nurse differ.

It's going to pull when you first start moving it again, that's not a bad thing. Sometimes it may itch, there may be a zinging feeling, it'll ache. All normal! Ice helps. The body is trying to figure out what's going on,it's not used to having a hunk of metal and scar tissue is building around it. It'll take some time to get back to normal.

how it feels Tracey...I’ll keep moving it but not extreme

Don't push it!

As an athlete, I was really anxious to get moving after my surgery.  The risk is moving too much can dislodge the leads in your heart by pulling in the wires (so I've been told).  I would suck it up and let those bad boys heal in your heart for the time the doc said, then worry about getting shoulder flexibility back afterwards.  Just my opinion. Good luck!

Yes, I agree..

with you...I am moving it with normal moves and trying to not lift it over shoulder height and deal with it down the road...3 weeks on Monday so the time seems to be flying anyway...Sleeping pretty normal and the pain is way down. just itchy and zingy at worst...I have an appointment with my normal Cardi in two weeks so hopefully I will get some info at that point...

Thanks so much for all the help...
