I feel very dizzy and tired after implant.

Hi,,

I am 65yr old and I feel dizzy and tired after the implant (5 days ago). I am unable to sleep at nights. I also feel very restless after the implant. I have consulted my doctor but there's no substantial issue he said. But I'm still worried. I feel like I might fall down while walking. I also have a strange feeling that someone is pulling me along with my bed. What's happening to me? Please help!!

meds?

Are you on pain medication or other heart meds? They can all cause dizziness. I'd expect to still be tired, you had surgery less than a week ago.

You'll feel better

Some people take to being paced like a duck to water. Some people take longer to get used to the fact that their heart is working differently than it did before, and therefore they feel different. It can take a week or two or longer to start feeling really good.

Being tired, unable to sleep, feeling restless and wired--all are fairly common post-pacemaker and aren't signs that anything is terrribly wrong.

The sensation that someone is pulling you along with your bed--do you mean you feel like you're moving even when lying still? That isn't commonly a part of the pacemaker experience. If it keeps up, you might want to ask your family doctor about it.

I agree might be meds.

I agree with the other fine responder, it might be meds- particularly, high blood pressure meds. I too had a pacemaker a few weeks ago and experienced lightheadedness. Consequently, the doctor discontinued one med, and reduce the other. Now, each of our cases are different, but you can at least discuss your meds with your doctor.

Feelng tired is par for the course after you get a pacemaker. So much so, my electrocardilogist instructed me emphatically to take it easy, maybe you'll feel up to going back to work in a few days or week, which I did at a reduced schedule for a few weeks.

If you are anything like me, I had to come to grips with myself that I had an operation, although small, but still an operation. I did, and after 8 weeks, I feel a lot better-but I had to tell myself repeatedly take it slow. Reduce your activity and rest. It will come back, but don't think they throw the pacemaker in and your back to normal the next day.

in my case, I was sore for about two weeks and gradually got some strength back- the key word is gradually. But all along, I treated myself with kid gloves and measured out how much activity I think I would like to try.

You should be proud of yourself for getting the pacemaker. Now, if your a person with  a great work ethic and usually get things done right away, you got to consider at least to take it easy for a while and give your body some time to heal up and gradually ge back to your regular activities. It might be foreign to you to take it easy and rest. But it works.

You will get back, but take this time to rest up.

You will do great! Healing is on the way!

Worry worry

I am at 11 days now and become exhausted quite quickly. I have at last realised I have to pace myself (pun intended} because I had a week lying in hospital with little sleep and my body had two operations. It is a shock to the system both physically and mentally which takes time to recuperate from. I am hypersensitive to every twitch in my body and every time I stand up I expect to fall, over and surprise myself since I do not feel light headed. It is difficult to know what normal is for a while and I certainly believe that if you feel odd you should not hesitate to return to you doctor for a consult.

Thank you.

The support from others who have experienced living with a pm for years is great to have. Especially in these early days when, for me, everything was completely unexpected and u known. My mind is calmer!
