Symptom Return

Received a Medtronic 2-lead PM about 2-mo ago, due to long standing Bradycardia!!  For the first 3-4 weeks I felt like Superman, with renewed enegy and NO extreme lite headedness with exercise!!

However, now my lite headedness has returned during exercise (increased demand)??  Sometime just geting up from setting and going to the other end of the house brings on lite headedness, as well as what I describe as a feeling where I have a pounding heart beat!

Puzzled.....

PM Adjustments

When they implant our devices the voltage is set high until our hearts get used to being paced.  After a few months, it may feel like your heart is pounding (it did for me) and then many of us need the voltage lowered.

It's a simple adjustment and can make a huge difference.  A medication adjustment is also a possibility.  Talk to your doc.

Getting used to being paced

I'm glad you had the experience of immediately feeling better. The pacemaker settings they send us home with are an estimate, a sort of best guess of what will work for most people in the first few weeks. As your heart gets used to being paced, the settings will need to be changed.

Let your EP know what's going on. Don't be discouraged if you find it takes several tries to get the settings just right for you.

Same thing happened to me.

I felt awesome for a month, then went back to dizzy spells and feeling awful for several weeks - exhausted with occasional dizziness. I pushed through that and I'm feeling good again- not the almost high I originally had but good. I'll take it.

I think what you're going through is pretty normal. It never hurts to ask your EP but he'll likely tell you the same.

My eight year old son had a pacemaker since he was 6 months old. He does very well, plays soccer, baseball, and rides his bike. I am so glad he is not ashamed of his pacemaker. He will proudly show his "battery" to anyone.
