Very Tired

Hello!

I had my PM inserted 4 months ago and what I noticed is that I am very tired. I can take a  nap mid-morning, even if I had a good night's sleep. I was diagnosed with bradycardia and "sick sinus syndrome"- if that's what it's called. I was always a very active person but my energy level has plummeted since the surgery.I noticed on my iWatch that my heart rate is generally from the 50's to as high as 209!m on Verapamil, HCTZ and Metropol Tartate.Any suggestions/advice appreciated. I see my cardiologist on Friday and of course, I'll bring this to his attention.

Tired

The most likely cause of your tiredness isn't the pacemaker, rather the metoprolol. Many can't function at all with even low doses.

metoprolol

It takes 4-6 weeks to adjust to being on it. I was on metoprolol for 3 weeks, couldn't stand it longer than that. I was so tired and dizzy I tripped over nothing and broke my foot, threw the bottle away and refused to take more. They  switched me to atenolol, was still tired but nothing like the metoprolol.  My husband takes it with no side effects, go figure. For sure talk to your doctor asap. If your rate is still getting up over 200 it sounds like maybe it's not working anyway, so something else is a better choice.

Your settings?

Seems like 50 is a bit low--do you know what range you are set for? I just had a St Jude implanted a few days ago for sick sinus (SA node dysfunction) and mine is set for 60 - 130. I agree on the bet blocker. Maybe, if they feel it is really necessary, they could lower the dose or change to another BB.

Clarification

I think I'm set from 60-130 as well and I've been taking the Metroprolo for years now.

50bpm, set for 60 minimum

Something's wrong. You should never be below the pacemaker minimum setting. That's what it's there for, particularly in your case.

If you've been on metoprolol for years and it didn't cause serious problems before,  it is unlikely the problem  owes, I agree.

Call your EP and find out what's going on. There is no reason to suffer.

Metoprolol....

Within an hour of taking Metoprolol I need to take a nap.  I'm on 25mg of the extended release (ER).  I cut the tab in half and take 1/2 at 11am and 1/2 at 11pm.  Even with that I need a nap right after lunch.   Did they add a new med since the implant, it may be a combination.  Just a thought.

Good luck getting it resolved!
