Day 3 Post Op

How did everyone sleep after surgery? I’m finding it hard to sleep even on my right side the pacemaker feels heavy on the left when I lay down. Think I’m going to buy a body pillow today to help at night.

Sleep

I slept in a recliner for a couple of months.

Thanks Robin1. I too have been doing the exact same thing...rolling from side to side until it gets a lil more comfortable. I have been sleeping on my back as well, was just curious how everyone else has been coping. Thanks

When it was still sore, I slept on my back hugging a small pillow that kept me from rolling onto my side as soon as I fell asleep.

It’s only the first couple of weeks..

I could never sleep on my back before the surgery, but somehow i did manage to do it for the first 3 weeks (ugh, that feeling whenever i accidentally rolled to the right and felt the PM “slide” was more than enough to get me sleeping on my back!!)

2 months down the line, i’m happy to say i found a perfect stuffed bunny to use as a body pillow. Which, to be honest, i don’t really need, but it gives me a great excuse to hold on to a stuffed toy at 36!

I used an electric recliner

Fortunately I already owned a reclining sofa, though normally I would sleep on my left hand side.  I mention that it is electric because that means it is easy to operate, and to get in just the right angle to sleep.  However, my pacemaker was for surgical complication during open heart surgery, where they accidentally damaged the electrics of my heart, so I also had an 8" (200mm) chest scar to treat carefully too!

I found it uncomfortable to sleep on my left for months, and then I noticed it wasn't a problem at all.  I guess it takes time for the pocket to fully heal.

A sling helps me

I am nearly two weeks out and my EP wanted me to use a sling with a waist strap at night for the first month. This supports my arm and shoulder and relieves the unconscious fear of flinging my arm around at night. I sleep on my back and right side with pillows on my left so I won't roll in that direction.

pillow seems to help

Yes I just bought a body pillow so I’ll try it out tonight. I generally sleep on my left side to fall asleep then switch to my right when I’m in a deep sleep but now with my new pacemaker I’ve been on my back since Tuesday. I will b putting pillows on my left side, because like some have said here I too fear slinging my left arm around at night. Hope the pillows help me

It’s only the first couple of weeks.

I wanted to get a perfect bunny to use as a body pillow, too, but my wife vetoed that idea.  With prejudice!

Truth be told, i was actually hoping for a silver fox, but my husband wouldn’t have any of it!

I'm a female and  found that a sports bra helped relieve a lot of pressure I was feeling.  I wore one 24/7.  I still wear a sports bra at night.  Hope this helps.

I have been sleeping on my back.  Never have slept yjis way before.  It is 12 days since surgery.  I can't seem to sleep through the night.  Does sleeping through the night get better?
