A couple questions!

Hi y'all hope that all of you are doing well. I am so behind on keeping up on writing any comments to all of you. To all the knew pacers that have recently joined welcome to this club filled with loving people here to help you on your knew journey with having a pacemaker.

My questions are over board but I will only ask a couple in hopes that somebody can give me a answer to settle my nerves.
I am still in search of a health insurance company that will give me insurance I spent all of last week calling and got denied by almost all of them. I was wondering how some of you went about getting insurance after a change in job or for me becoming to old to be on my parents insurance.
Second question is if I continue to get denied disability and can not find health insurance when it comes time for my pacemaker to get replaced which is in four to five years will I be able to get one even without insurance and without being able to cover it.
My doctor apt. last week went very well. I am officially out of a-fib. I still have the constant spasm over my chest area and in my legs which is painful. They say that it is not related to the pacemaker and that they don't believe anything is resting on a nerve. They said that if I had insurance they would have ran tests but because I don't they can not do very much. My heart doctor would really like to refer me to a pain specialist but I am not a person to take a lot of medications.
The only other question is I know some of you have had ablations did you have any side effects like I have had?

Thanks and sorry for this being so long. I wish you all many blessings and your all in my thoughts. Hopefully before long I will be able to get on a little more often.

Tammy

some of the other members who have been successful getting insurance may be able to help you.some may even be from your state or know of an insurance company that will help you. i wish you success in finding coverage.a pacemaker is stressful enough with the insurance to worry about too. jessie

Hi Tammy.

I know so well what you are going through. I am trying to switch to another Health Insurance as well, the price of mine has gone through the roof.
So far, I have been rejected by every one of them, as soon as I mention my heart condition, and pacemaker. Same answer: "the underwriters won't even consider it."
We have a plan here in Colorado, called Cover Colorado, where anyone and everyone can apply, and you cannot be rejected. However, there is a catch. I called, and before they will even consider accepting me in their plan, I have to produce a rejection letter from one of the companies who rejected me.
Do you know an Insurance Company willing to put themselves in jeopardy, writing such a letter?
Right at this moment, I have an application en route to Kaiser Permanente. I don't exactly relish having to go with an HMO, I'll lose all my present doctors, but if it's affordable, and I'm accepted, it'll have to do.
I checked a few sites, looking for a solution to your dilemma. Perhaps Kansas would have a plan similar to Cover Colorado, I didn't find anything under Cover Kansas. I did however find some information, and explanations on how the Kansas health care works, and how to acquire Health Insurance.

So, here it is. I hope you can get some help out of it all.
Take care, good to hear from you.

I've been lucky with insurance so far. Last June I was laid off and we had to go under my husband's insurance.
Then in November he was laid off and I had to pick it up at my new job (twice at much but at least we have it). Neither time did they ask about medical conditions on any one in the family. (and my oldest sees a neurologist at least twice a year for ADD and Asperger's Syndrome) Plus all the medication we both take. In MA it's a state law to have insurance now. The cheapest the state offers is more than what I pay and there's no way we could afford it.
Good luck finding some.

I can only get covered by insurance through my workplace. Thank goodness it is good stuff. I think between my PM and ablation I only paid about $500 out of pocket.

I'd love to get more life insurance but as soon as they hear the word Pacemaker they shut down so fast my head spins! I had one tell me I would not be eligible with his company for at least 5 years after the PM was implanted. But, recently they upped our life insurance coverage at work so that will help, and I don't need a ton, just enough to cover things should anything happen to me.

Good luck on your quest and if you get denied disability again, contact a lawyer. Sometimes just the mention of that can get things moving! I know it did for my sister!

BTW...what issues did you have with your ablation? If you want to discuss email me.

I've seen many posts about people being concerned about exercise after having a device so thought I would let you know that yesterday I raced my first marathon since having my pacemaker fitted in fall 2004.
