Trains

Hi! I was wondering if anybody knows if it is safe to ride on trains with the pacemaker. I am taking a trip to Chicago very soon and was just wondering about if I will be able to take the train to the city or if I will have to do the drive. I know it may be a odd question but I know nothing about trains besides they save time.
The only thing that I do know is that kid trains have magnets on them. Horrible I know!

Hello, Unless you are riding in the engine with the engineer as I do on occasion.... you shouldn't have any problems, My husband is a train engineer, that's how I know.
Have a safe and delightful trip!
p.s. I have taken the train into Chicago from Naperville and back. It was great fun!

Hi, I need to expand on my earlier post. I was riding in the engine last summer. We had been through the city and it was a lovely night to been on the train. The whistle, the soothing sound of the train rolling along the track. It was all very romantic.,.... until I became lightheaded and then very dizzy. I had to sit down. I was going to passout! I recall saying to my hubby that I didn't feel so well. What was wrong with me... I leaned against the controls where you start the engines and there it was. The voltage was incredible! Listed right there on the control panel. It was interfering with my pacer. After Tim, switched the power to the 2nd and third engines and turned off the power in the 1st engine (where I was) I was better in no time.
Now I know that there is an train engineer who comes to this site. Maybe she can shed some more light on the situation.

That is a good question! My husband is a conductor, and it never even crossed my mind that a train may interfere with my pacer! I am interested to see the responses!

Your the reason why I questioned. I remember when you had posted some time ago about that trip with your husband but couldn't remember what you had said. Thank you for calming my nerves. I was so use to the train when I lived in the city and was hoping I still would be able to take it. Thank you!

Hi Tammy.

I recently returned from France, while there, we took a high speed train out of Paris. As a passenger, I had no trouble whatsoever. It never even crossed my mind that a train ride would be interfering with my pacemaker, I was more worried about the plane ride.
