Cough blackout

Coughing from what seemed to be bronchitis. Cough is not from my chest anymore, however it is as though my air is being cut off when I cough because I almost blacked out twice (vision narrowed; dark). It feels like something in my Adam's apple area is stopped up. Anyone else have this happen?

ER time!

It sounds like pneumonia or perhaps pluracy.  It's not uncommon for heart issues to show up first as coughs, either.  It's time to have this looked at now.

Blackout is bad

You need to be seen by a doctor. Pronto.

Doctor says 'Meh'

Cardiologist Nurse Practioner says (without seeing me) that my almost black outs can not  be heart related because my pacemaker won't allow my heart to go under 60 BPM; it must be a respiratory .

(In her defense, she probably did not pull my entire chart up to see I have HCM as well as Complete Atrioventricular Block.)

"In her defense"

Really?  She "probably" didn't pull your chart and you're OK with her "diagnosis"?  GotR is absolutely right. Blackouts are really bad. It may indeed be respiratory but your lungs and heart are pretty closely intertwined.  Don't fool around with this.  Please!

Thank you ♡

Thank you all for your encouragement. I honestly am awed how supportive you all gave been. My own family is "used to me having health issues" and treat this as something that will pass in time.

My regular cardiologist is awesome. He us very aggressive with symptoms and honors any complaint with investigation. Unfortunately, he is not currently avaiable.

Not thinking clearly

The nurse practitioner is misinformed. A pacemaker related blackout is rare but it is possible. I iknow. I've been there.

But I think you are missing the point. Black outs can have lots of causes, not just the heart. But no matter the cause, they are all dangerous. A friend blacked out due to neurocardiogenic syncope. She fell, hit her head, got a concussion with brain bleed, and broke her wrist. Recovery took months.

Still, she was lucky. It could have been worse. At least she wasn't driving a car, going down concrete stairs, carrying a baby, a knife, or something made of glass.

You are a danger to yourself and others. Do not wait for cardiologist. Go to your PCP or the ER!

Tomorrow

by Momma - 2018-09-16 22:17:59

First thing tomorrow (Monday) I will contact my regular cardiologist .He is the first cardiologist to pay attention to my Cardiac symptoms, take them seriously, and basically saved my life with emergency surgery.  He has been unavailable for the past few weeks (helping others), but will be in office tomorrow.

I have been isolated to home on my own decision since this started in order not to endanger anyone else (by driving) or myself.

I thank God for you all and your encouragement to seek help. ♡

I have a well tuned pacer. I hardly know I have it. I am 76 year old, hike and camp alone in the desert. I have more energy than I have had in a long time. The only problem is my wife wants to have a knob installed so she can turn the pacer down.
