Little pimple right by the incision

Hello Everyone!

I have had my ICD/pacemaker for over a year, yesterday I noticed a little pimple right by the incision. It is little, red, with a white middle. I'm afraid that the bacteria from the pimple will spread to the actual pocket or device. Should I call my MD and get some antibiotics? Or just watch it? Many thanks in advance!

...y6our PCP opens in AM.  This could be a developing abscess..  They can develop extremely rapidly.  Antibiotics are the first attack, followed by an I&D - Incision & drain.  They have most of their structure sub cutaneously & you do not see the roots until it is late.  They are usually a Staph infection that comes from bacteria on the skin that evertyone has..  When you have a PM that is only a quarter inch below the skin it doesn't take lomg for the bugs to get into the pocket.

DON"T just call for antibiotics.  BE SEEN.  Diagnosing over the telephone is not  a safe approach.

well maybe. I’m 3 wks post implant and all of sudden my incision got red, itchy and inflamed. Im always in contact with my doc and I sent him pictures of it and he called in a prescription for antiobiotics right away! He thinks it was an abscess. After 2 days of antibiotics things look a lot better. Whew! Scary!  Hope you got seen.

...There's always  room in the schedule to see an early abscess, if for no other reason than liability if it really goes bad in a hurry.  We see too many of them where the sufferer has waited too long and they are big as golf balls & literally splatter the wall when the pressure is released by an incission.  WaIting too long can be as short a period as overnight. This supports the ols maxim - "Never get sick on a friday - especially before a long weekend!"
