I have a pacemaker put in back in may because my heart would stop beating i also have angina.i have nitroglycerin when the pain in my chest happens. I ened up taking 2 pills with in 15 mins. How can i know if its a heart attack or is it angina attack?  It took 20 mins for my chest pain to stop.i can take up to 3 nitroglycerin in 15 mins both attacks have the same symptoms.  Thanks for any help

You KNOW what ...

...the answer is - you just want someone to say something different!  We won't!

Get to an ER, immediately.  Only a Dr. can differentiate bewtwee n angina & a full blown hweart attack when you have as many health issues as you have.

Donr i do not want some one to say something different im still learning the ropes yes i have many health issues but i beleave that if you dont ask you wont know and no questions are a dumb question.  I was put in the hospital for a copd and cold flare up the next day my heart surgeon took out my recorder and in with a pacemaker.  Then a week later they had to replace my pacemaker cause the wirers came off. So it was all a shock to me. I was under the thought that pacemaker club was where you can talk about your own experiences that might help others or ask questions if you are unsure maybe this is the wrong place for me

Nope, no special pacemaker

This is the place to come for pacemaker related questions. It's not such a good place for medical advice. In particular, this is not the place to come to get permission to do something really stupid. If you have chest pains, the ER is a FAR better place to be. Let them tell you it's angina. We can't and won't give you permission to ignore serious warning signs.

Look at all the...

...confounding issues you sent back to me - even more  reason for you to head for an ER.  When Heart attack symptoms show up, even 5 minutes can make a difference between life & death.

Last Jan, I had potential HA symptoms - went to ER.  ER doc told me I was NOT having one, BUT he wanted to keep me overnight to run a few tests the next AM.  Next AM I actually started a HA.  They were treating me w/i 5 min.  That's why I am here today.

I stand by my answer.

This is a very helpful group and everyone's advice is solid.  Don't let one sentence be your take away.  I hope you went to the ER.

Recurrent angina...

If you've had angina before having the pacemaker will make no difference.  Pacemaker takes care of some of the electrical issues but not the pumping function.  If you had issues before you'll still have those issues.   I have atypical angina so I kind of have a feel for what it is when it starts and I just ride it out, do my vagal maneuvers, cough, stretch, etc and that seems to work for me.  Keep in mind, I am NOT a doctor, I am NOT qualified to give you medical advice.  You should not make decisions based on my personal experience.

Bobthom thank you i hear what you are saying i like to hear how other deal cop i know you cant take peoples advise to the bank there not dr. I was just wondering if people in general can tell the difference during one of the attacks between heart attacks or the angina.  I just found out recently what angina really was.i didnt realize that it was a pump had no clue really.but now i do . Its a terrible thing when your mind slips and gets cloudy thanks again

You know you're wired when...

You can finally prove that you have a heart.
