new twist on a medical id

Or maybe it's not new, but I just saw it today so it's new to me! It's a little sleeve that goes on the band of your garmin/fitbit/apple watch with a QR code that goes to your full medical history. I may get one because I've been running more distance and become more of a slacker about wearing my medical id bracelets.

NEW TWIST ON A MEDICAL ID

by daves52 - 2018-10-04 17:00:19

I would be interested in hearing if anyone uses these and if they would be recognized by medical personel in case of an emergency. I have looked at them also.

I wear a bracelet (until I lost it at the TSA checkpoint) and a dog tag.  I'm hoping they see the medic alert symbol.  If I get whacked, I'd like them to know I'm on Eliquis and to not waste time trying to figure out my funky heart rhythm.

I don't have either....

I don't have any ID that I wear, only the ID card in my wallet.  I've wondered sometimes what would happen if I went for a walk without my wallet who/how they would ID me since I live alone.  I'll have to look into it.  Thanks for posting on the subject!

Info on bracelet?

by BOBTHOM - 2018-10-05 12:12:21

Just wondering what info you guys have on your bracelets?  your name, phone#, emergency contact, doctors phone#, and is it just on the front or some on the front and some on the back?  Sorry if these sound like stupid questions but I've never had one.

Thanks for any tips/advice.

My bracelet has my name, PACEMAKER and the phone number and access code to my online medical record which is through American Medical. I don't put more than that on the bracelet because I don't want all my bracelets to become obsolete if something changes.

What's on the ID

My bracelet has "Eliquis Metoprolol" "Pacemaker Dependent", "AV Ablation/Dyssynchrony" and on it.  My tag has the same, with my name, my wife's phone number, and "See wallet card", where I have all the drugs and other details.

What's on the ID - ore thoughts

What you put on your ID, whether it be a bracelet or dog tag, depends on your condition, of course, but also the space availabl.  Make sure what you put on it is the most essential information that would be needed immediately by an EMT if you're unable to tell them.  He's not there to chat with you, so your name probably doesn't qualify. It's not a date, so your phone number isn't so important, either.  They can deal with notifications and insurance later.

OTOH, if you're diabetic, that's certainly something they need to know.  If you're on an anticoagulant, they need to know that, too (an MRI is in your future - quickly).  A pacemaker is certainly on the list, so they're careful of it if they need to use an AED.  In my case, I want them to know that my heart rhythm is normally screwed up, don't waste time figuring it out.

It's all about priorities.

phone number

My medical alert doesn't have MY phone number, it has the number and access code to get to my full medical history and emergency contacts.

First thing they recommend putting on? Name. Here's why.

"Including your name on your ID gives emergency responders a quick way to identify and address you as they begin treatment."

I don't really give a rat's rear end how they address me.  I want them to save my rear end.  Emergency information only (all other can be carried in the wallet, purse).

"Full names are ideal, as it allows for quicker identification and access to medical records, if needed."

We're talking about EMT's here.  They're not looking up medical records and they'd have to know where your records are.  Not buying that one either. There is a time for that.

Beach/swimming

I'm thinking more about if I'm at the beach or swimming and I'm alone, I won't have my wallet with me so name would be VERY important, just not sure what phone number to put on it, maybe my EP's office?  or the local hospital (the medical group is owned by the same group that runs the hospital)?  Or medtronic as they would have the most updated info should I change EP's?

Check out American Medical. https://www.myihr.com/entry/ You can purchase their online medical record which has your doctors, emergency contacts, meds, allergies, surgical history, even blood type and a photo. It comes with a phone number or website to access the records. Then you put THAT phone number on the alert. Or the link that started this post is another company that does something similar but with a QR code to access the online records.

I've had my online record with American Medical for years, it used to be free with any purchase so I got the cheapest one they had just to get the records, then I got some pretty bracelets from Laurens Hope and NStyle that have the American Medical phone number engraved.  I also have sports ones that are great for the beach from Go Sport ID, a stainless strip that goes around a silicone bracelet.

I just checked, my login still works and I updated my info while I was in there. And ooooooh, they have tags you can have printed that stick to your the back of your phone! It's obviously been too long since I shopped! (rubbing hands)

As for my pacemaker (almost 7 years old) I like to think of it in the terms of the old Timex commercial - takes a licking and keeps on ticking.
