Nothing has changed

I'm a fairly active 84yr.old and last year during a short break in a spinning class at the Gym, the instructor asked if anyone had a heart condition.  There were a few gasps when I mentioned my Pacemaker.

To me it is a safety device which adjusts my heart rate as necessary to compensate for increased exertion but several others seemed to think that I should be 'taking it easy'  but Gym exercises and swimming are just a weekly routine to me.

I just don't think about it at all.  Things like stripping pallets down, splitting logs, using a chainsaw, and woodturning continue as normal.

The possibility of Stick Welding is currently under investigation as I have an electric log splitter to make.

I had completely forgotten that I had a pacemaker fitted until a reminder for a check up came through the post and now it seems that I am 'good to go' for another two years.

I would recommend my philosophy of putting any thoughts about your Pacemaker to the back of your mind and forgetting all about it and just get on with life as normal.

Just my two pennies worth.

You're a fabulous role model for the PM enabled out here.  I hope I have your attitude in another 18 years!

I'd watch the welding, though.  You certainly want to research it.

Well said Ron!

I completely agree, and have the same attitude.  It is often only when somebody posts a message on here asking if it is ok to do something that I think: "I never thought about that when I did that a couple of weeks ago!".

I am not quite a cavalier as that may suggest: I have no intention of going into a scrap metal yard and seeing if those big magnetic cranes moving cars around affect me or not!!  And a few other things would make me stop and think.  But even if they did interfere I know it would only be temporary.

You know you're wired when...

You invested in the Energizer battery company.

The pacer systems are really very reliable. The main problem is the incompetent programming of them. If yours is working well for you, get on with life and enjoy it. You probably are more at risk of problems with a valve job than the pacer.
