Soreness

I have had my pm fitted for 6 months now.

Quite often I get a burning sensation in the site.  Is this normal?

Healing

You gave us very little information so it's a little hard to tell if anything else is going on.  Mostly, if the site isn't puffy and sore, and you aren't showing any other signs of infection, you're probably OK.  After the pacemaker implant, the wound area starts to heal and keeps on healing as you go on.  Eventually the body sections off the area and forms a more permanent pocket.  While doing that, there is background healing going on.

Between the six to nine month period after I received my pacemaker I was doing a lot of work in the charity woodshop and my implant site would get really sore from the increased activity.  I'd work one day, then spend the next four with hot and cold packs while popping tylenol pills.  I'd go from severe itching to severe soreness depending upon what I was doing.  Some people talk about having "ant bites" as the nerves heal.  Other report different sensations.  So it's all normal because you probably have increased your activity as you start to feel better.

Hot and cold packs on the implant site can help with the soreness.  Taking tylenol helps too.  At five years out, I'll use a heating pad on my implant site if I've pushed too hard  doing yard work or other outdoor activity.

Hope everything else is going well for you.

I just want to share about the quality of life after my pacemaker, and hopefully increase awareness that lifestyles do not have to be drastically modified just because we are pacemaker recipients.
