Cardioversion

Hi, folks -

I had an icd installed 7 months ago. I got a double-whack cardioversion about a month later to get Afib under control. No help.

Then assorted blood scans, TEE and cardiac ablation. Dr said all blood vessels were clear. “I didn’t see one crumb!”

Now I’m scheduled for a cardioversion the end of this week. If my icd scan shows no Afib, the nurse says, the cardioversion will be called off!

Is there any precedent to this? I sometimes feel I’m on a short leash!

I’m 75 years old. The ripe age for Afib. I think I need some fatherly advice.

ICD not for AFIB

Not sure I understand your question completely but it's my understanding that ICD's are not used to tread AFIB, only VFIB and VTACH.  Not sure how an ICD scan would show AFIB?  I know that mine does not record those events.

Afib shown on ICD

My ICD shows afib events on a graph.  I have uncommon short runs of afib.  It doesn't treat it.  Bobthom is right....ICDs only treat vfib and vtach.

I've seen many posts about people being concerned about exercise after having a device so thought I would let you know that yesterday I raced my first marathon since having my pacemaker fitted in fall 2004.
