Post pm tenderness

Hey all. I am having tenderness over the actual pm not specific to incision but over where the actual pm is which was inserted under muscle below left clavicle. It has been just over three weeks. I’m wondering if this is normal or a variation of normal. The wound looks clear dry no redness ooze or weeping. I do get some shoulder pain now and again during the day but it is tolerable and not continuous, I’m assuming it is just nerve pain from the incision and placement of a foreign body into my muscle. My appointment post pm with my cardiologist is in another 6 weeks. Should I be concerned?? Has anyone else experienced this?? Thanking anyone for any input in advance.

The general time sequence is four weeks.  However there is some healing that goes on for quite a while.  If you've ever seen one of the YouTube videos of a pacemaker insertion you'd wonder why you aren't more sore than you are.

At or about six months I went back to working in a charity woodshop.  Lots of arm movement.  So my pacemaker pocket area got real sore.  I'd work one day, then spend the next four on Tylenol and using hot and cold pads.  Got severe itching in the pocket area and the "ant bites" some people talk about as everything continued to heal. The soreness continued on for most of the first year but not everyone tosses twenty pounds of wood around all the time.

Yours is under the muscle so it will probably be sore for a little longer than most.  It just depends upon how your body heals and your activity level.  I can't give any time frames but you know mine went on for about a year.

Hope everything else is going well for you.

Mine is under the pectoral. I had residual soreness and strange feelings for a good 3 months after. It takes time for the scar tissue to build up around it.

Nerve Pain

i’m almost 1 year post op and I’m still very sore. I’m in physical therapy and I take lyrica for the nerve pain. I have pain shooting through my collarbone. I have a great EP and pain Dr. The lyrica helps some and I’ve learned the more I move and do my therapy, the less pain I have. I’m a nurse and had to change my field because I’m not able to do as much physical work as before. I’ve found that this is a long journey but I’m willing to put the work in. Hang in there it gets better.
