Pacemakers and Pregnancy

Hi, guys. I'm 29 and have been wired for 5 years. I recently found out I am 5 weeks pregnant. My pacemaker has been going off a lot more recently. Does anyone have any knowledge or experience with pregnanacy and pacemakers ? Thanks !

I had two pregnancies after I was paced. I had normal pregnancies and deliveries, worked out until I delivered both times. If the pacer fixes what’s wrong with our hearts, it’s a nonevent. My oldest just graduated from college.

Keep in mind that ob’s dont get many, if any, paced patients and most of what they learned about hearts is from their cardiac rotation when in school. That means you probably know more about your condition than your ob.  I found it helpful to have the cardiologist and ob talk to each other. My ob was talking high risk referral and neonatal cardiologist.  My cardio told him to treat me like any other healthy mom to be, and that what I have is not genetic so no extra concern for the baby. The only thing he requested was a heart rate monitor during delivery and said if things got drawn out or my heart showed any signs of stress, there would be a csection asap. They even let me in the birthing suites rather than the regular maternity floor.

If you are on heart meds, talk to your doctor ASAP as many of them do not mix with pregnancy.

If you have questions or just want to chat, message me any time.

Thanks !

@Tracey_E thank you ! I actually had several ablations and haven't needed meds for about a year. My Pacemaker Doc cleared me for pregnancy when we stadted trying but I have other health issues and the combination makes me high risk. Im going to get an appt with him just to see what to expect.

I feel so blessed to have this little gem implanted in me. When I think of the alternative it is quite overwhelming sometimes.
