ER Visit

Well today was not a good day at all for me. I woke up at 5am throwing up and in pain. I can’t even tell you how much I threw up. I called my dad at 9am and couldn’t talk bc the pain was so intense.
He came home and took me to ER where they said it sounded like the flu or appendix. My white count was high so they ran all kinds of painful tests. What they determined is I have two kidney stones and a ovarian cyst.
He said that I could stay in the hospital if I couldn’t drink still but there wasn’t much they were able to do for me. I opted to come home and tough it out. I am able to sleep for short amounts of time but my pain starts to come back. I don’t get how I got these stones.
Has anybody else had these and what helped you to get them to pass? Thanks!
Tammy

kidney stones and ovarian cysts

Hi Tammy:)

My gawd girl, things keep happening to you, when will it stop??? It's like you're following in my footsteps.

During one of my many many many visits to the ER I saw a lady once puking her guts out and screaming in pain - she was right next to me (we were only divided by a thin curtain). She said she knew it was a kidney stone because she had had them before. Our ER simply gave her a whallop of a pain med and sent her home - hoping she would pass the stone. I don't know if she had had an Xray or CT scan to be able to see the size of the stone(s) but suffice it to say I was totally shocked she was "kicked out" of the hospital.

The ovarian cyst. I have experience with that one!!!! It was during the time I was having such a hard time and going to the ER almost monthly...I was so angry at yet another problem arising that I sat up in bed all night bawling my eyes out until I felt something burst. Within the next few days I remember having a family doctor's appointment and told her how I totally refused to go to the ER and she told me I should have - oh well, too late. So she sent me for a CT scan and sure enough, they could tell by that that I had an ovarian cyst and it had burst.

All I can say is if the pain gets worse - head back to the ER - like others have said - perhaps they (the stones) could be zapped and you would be feeling a whole lot better.

It's amazing to me how every hospital is different.

Hugs my friend,
Pookie

Ouch!

I've passed kidney stones a couple of times and in both cases, it was the hope of dying that kept me alive. It IS quite painful.
I'm not quite sure I understand exactly what happened to you. Normally, the hospital with keep you at least overnight, knock you out with some marvelous pharmaceutical, punch a saline solution in your arm to hydrate you thoroughly and wait until you pass the stones.
I know that when the stones don't want to pass, for whatever reason, they can be pulverized with ultrasounds.
In brief, unless I don't understand your explanation, I can't figure out why they didn't treat you more aggressively.
I truly sympathize with you. I have never experienced anything as painful as kidney stones.
I hope you are doing better.

Edouard

Hi Tammy!
What you have is no fun! Both the stones and the cyst. I had stones many, many years ago. At the hospital they gave me heavy pain meds and zapped the stones. I certainly would not want to have waited for them to pass! Crazy, I went to see my OB yesterday and like you I have another ovarian cyst. Mine usually rupture before they get ad large as this one is. That in itself can be painful!

I hope both issues are resolved quickly for you!

When are you getting off that roller coaster?? I was shocked to read your post and also your treatment at the hospital. Personally I've been fortunate not to have had your latest problem but I've witnessed my son-in-law go through it some years ago. I shouldn't even go into it but he endured more stress as the die used for diagnosis caused him liver failure, jaundice, he turned yellow as a carrot. They did the ultrasonic blasting to take care of the stones. As a teacher he was off work for a year but made a good recovery. He was very carefull with diet & liquids.

In his case the diagnosis did more damage than anything. So, today we all should be aware of the possible bodily harm we can get from some tests. I have had liver scans but now refuse the bad die even though it does show more detail in X-rays. Tammy, I hope by now you're doing better as the odds should now be in your favor. Again, Prayers are with you. donb

Thank You!

Thanks All for the comments. I posted a updated message and I still have not passed the stones. I find it very unpleasant right now but not near as painful as it was.
I almost went back to the ER the following morning but was able to handle the pain a little better. I guess I need to focust on the blessings that it's nothing to do with my heart this time.
Thank you again for all the prayers and thoughts and comments!

Love,
Tammy

I've very late posting, but...

I had a large kidney stone that actually is how they caught the DCM in the first place. I was doubled over in pain. They gave me pain meds and did a CT scan. They called at home to say, "you aren't going to pass the stone, because it's too large. You need the lithotripsy (where they bust up the stone with a laser). When they did the routine ekg prior to the lithotripsy, they found the heart problems. They stopped the plan for the lithotripsy. They concentrated on the heart and in the meantime were just loading me up with the pain meds. If you don't have a pacemaker or defib, they can do the litho to break up the stones to make it easier to pass them. All the fluids they tell you to drink for the kidney stones are contrary to what they tell you with heart problems, so it's a curse, for sure. I had the lithotripsy prior to the implant of the bi-vent so now I can never again have the litho for the stones. I hope they are able to get rid of those stones for you. It's one of the worst pains I've ever experienced.

You know you're wired when...

You run like the bionic woman.
