trouble since day 1

Had the thing (pacemaker) implanted in 2014 due to 2:1 heart block.  Have had nothing but trouble since.  Constant pain at the site, problems with settings, can't do any exercise using left arm or lift any weight at all without pain, it has never been comfortable, I have never gotten used to it... I can go on and on.  Have changed doctors several times, had SO many tests, they all say the thing is operating fine, and there's nothing wrong with my heart (except for that little electrical issue) My latest cardiologist feels there may be a problem with a lead - FINALLY something that doesn't suggest I am a lunatic!!  Having a really difficult time, still feeling like crap because the settings are still wrong - Monday can't come soon enough so I can get to the pacer clinic.  Is there anyone else out there that has had nothing but trouble????  I can't be the only one!!!

Let's split this into two parts...

...Heart & Rest of body.  #1 - you are NOT a lunatic.  You obviously hurt badly.  Yiu never mentioned how you feel heart-wise.,  has there been any improvement there?  lte's get that part out in the open. IS it doing what it should be doing for yur old ticker?  Do NOT let the physical part mask any good the electrical part is doing.    Sit down, take your mind off the physical & look at the electrical & answer that question for yourself.  Most cardio's don't look at the physical aspects - thy are interested in the electrical part.  You walk in complaining about your PM & they IMMEDIATELY look at the electrical aspects - do a download, run an ECG - look at them & say "It's doning fine."  Maybe that part is, but you hve not said - "My heart feels fine, but I hurt like *&^%^%$ in the shouder, etc.    Focus their attention on the REAL part that is annoying you.  You might get their attention.  Who knows what hurt you may have from the cutting of the body & how it recovered from THAT.  Maybe the surgeon left a monkey wrench in therre!

trouble since day 1

Thank you for your kind words and encouragement - I really appreciate it!!

Donr - I agree, they normally want to see what's going on with the device and as soon as they saw "normal" readings they gave up - the pacemaker was working fine according to the downloads.  Every time I went in I had symptoms for them to check - resting heart rate at 115 all the time - feeling like I was going to choke on my heart as it felt like it was going to beat right out of me - I could tell them when the device was assisting my heart - feeling like I wanted to crawl out of my skin because I had constant turmoil going on inside me.  Soooo many issues it was ridiculoous.  I had multiple chemical and treadmill stress tests, ekg's, they did a heart catheter procedure, put me on so many different blood pressure meds and everyone kept saying "nothing wrong with your heart or the device" but I knew it wasn't right!!  Yes, I think they did leave a monkey wrench in there!!

ChristopherTodd - I am so glad they thought to check the lead first for you!!  It took them almost 5 years to figure it out for me :(  My heart block hit me really quickly too!  I wish you all the best in your healing!!!

Turns out I ended up in the ER that weekend because I was fainting from extremely low heart rate, in between times when my heart was racing out of control - had surgery a week ago Monday to replace the broken lead (which I suspect has been broken or faulty all along).  I am healing well, just went back to my cardiologist for a post-op check today and everything is good.  I am cautiously optimistic in saying I have not felt this good since before the heart block issue began.  I asked the surgeon to change the location of the device while he was in there, and it was definitely the right thing to do - will see how things go as I heal.

All I can say is trust your gut and know your body!!!!

THANK YOU AGAIN!!!

You know you're wired when...

You have a maintenance schedule just like your car.

I'm 35 and got my pacemaker a little over a year ago. It definitely is not a burden to me. In fact, I have more energy (which my husband enjoys), can do more things with my kids and have weight because of having the energy.
