Pacemaker infection

Had pacemaker put in 8/1/19 healed really well until last stitch 7 weeks on it went red with discharge...GP gave me Flucloxicillin antibiotics 500mg x2 ..four times a day..stayed red and swollen..3 days later.  Son took me to A/E hospital doctor doubled the dose for 7 days still taking ...hoping this clears inwardly ..anyone experienced this ...grateful for any you are all having a good day....

You need cultures done immediately! Antibiotics don't do any good in any dose unless they are hitting the bacteria causing the infection. Don't waste time on what may or may not be working, and what you are on doesn't sound like it is working, a culture will tell them exactly what you need. I don't mean to alarm you but this can get very serious very quickly. The infection can go down the leads into the heart. If they can't get it under control quickly, the whole thing is going to have to come out then once the infection clears put it back in somewhere else. Too many offices take it lightly for too long.

I was worried I had an infection from a stitch that hadn't dissolved and my cardiologist/EP said he won't even try antibiotics, the only solution is to take out the pacemaker and put it on the other side.  That terrified me, but it is what it is.  Fortunately things are good now, but I realize that it can still happen.  Good luck to you, I’m sure your doctor will get it handled.
