I Am Newly Charged!

Hello everyone, I am happy to announce that I am the "most proud" new owner of a brand new 2019 St. Jude model Pacemaker!  It appears that the 9 year old model had come to the end of it's days.  The exsisting leads are of the 2005 model year and are still working well.  The leads appear to have a longer running life than the 2 previous pacemaker models.  So... in 7 years or so we will be upgrading the leads as well.   The good news is that my heart has not deteriorated past the stage that it was in back in 2010.  My Cardiologist was quite impressed, as was I.  On the other hand, I seem to have a oozing wound (hence my new nick name "Oozie Susie") so a compression bandage was applied while I was in surgery.  It will be removed in 48 hours.  I might add that my left chest area is now turning blue. No swelling, minimal pain, but a pretty shade of blue.

One of the highlights of my recent "procedure" is that "Ellie" the St. Jude Rep, actually reprogrammed my "Merlin" to work with my new Pacemaker and it is now totally wireless and it comes with it's own phone! No more landline! Yoo Hoo!  "Ellie" did explain to me that If I am away from home for more than 10 days at a stretch I must take "Merlin" with me. Merlin does require electricty but no phone landline. Welcome to the new age of pacemakers!

I would like to add that I requested that my old pacemaker be returned to me.  The response to my request was "why".  I simply explained that my pacemaker had become my best friend and has been with me through thick and thin! It means a lot to me.  They smiled at me and said yes! I could have it! When I came to, after my surgery, there it was in a clear plastic bag all ready to take home.  One nurse said to me that I had paid for it and it should be returned to me, the owner! I said to her that she was my new best friend!

Happy Pacing!
