Pacemaker

Hi all, I was told a year ago when I received my ICD that I could no longer no any type of electric welding. This information devastated me as I am a builder of custom chassis and suspension for custom cars and truck's. I just had my yearly ICD check up and during my whinnying I got a curious look from the gal doing the check up. She went the extra mile for me and got me some information that was huge for me. I have a Biotronik,  pacemaker. They have information that was put out in December 1993 in an article in the medical journal, PACE, that describes testing that was done when arc welding.  I called Biotronik inc at, 800 284-6689  for a copy of that information. Turns out I can weld with some restrictions. Settings of amps should not exceed, 100 amps for Tig welding,  250 amps for AC arc welding,  250 amps for plasma welding and 350 amps for DC welding. There are some important recommendations that should be followed as well. I did make it a point to ask what I should do if I felt any changes in me heart rate while welding and was told to shut the machine down and leave the area. When the pacemaker no longer detected anymore interference the ICD would reset back to its normal functions... Anyway if anyone is interested you can get a copy of this info at, Biotronik.com. I sincerely hope this will be of help for at least some of you out there... Hot Rod...

Glad you got better information! It's frustrating when we are told NO on something rather than them take the time to learn the details and give us a complete answer. There are very, very few things we can't do at all.
