PM blues

I have had my pacemaker for almost 2 weeks now. I am so so very sorry I had this put in. They said it would give me more energy to make me feel better but it’s not true. I  feel depressed I definitely have less energy than I had before and it hurts . My first check up with the doctor is in a few days and I want to tell them to take it out. I live alone and I could manage almost all the things that needed to be done . Now I struggle to get off the couch. Is this my life from now on?  I have had a fib for many many years it was controlled with flecinaide and I’d I also had a loop recorder put in. My last check for the loop recorder said my heart stopped for three seconds. Cardiologist said I needed a pacemaker. Now the a fib is running wild again even though I am still on the meds.

It gets better

Your body is probably adjusting to the procedure and the fact you have the pacemaker in your chest. Give yourself time to adjust. It took me 4-6 weeks before I felt fine and stopped  thinking about the pacemaker.

Are you on different medicines? This could also contribute to your tiredness.

You would benefit from speaking to both your cardiologist and your general practitioner as soon as is practicable. No one would feel better with rampant atrial fibrillation. Chronic fatigue is certainly a symptom. I am not suprised you are feeling depressed. This is a correctable, medical  problem.

There is being low and being depressed. It you really do feel like **** and everything is doom and gloom, loss of appretite, sleep disturbed etc, you should discuss this with your doctor.  Almost everyone gets depressed or tense after surgery.  Your life expectations are turned around and re-examined. There are effective talking, thought, and medication therapies for depession. I think being brave enough to accept  help is the first step in getting better. Well done for posting.

Hang in there. It going to take some time for your body to adjust. Also, let your PM rep look at your readings and see if they can adjust the settings. Maybe the heart rate needs to be upped. The medicine can be adjusted as time goes on. The docs wouldn't have installed it if you didn't need it. Keep us posted.

I am no expert, but I believe that without the defibrillator that I have, I would be dead.
