Motorcycling?

Just wondering if there are other motorcycle riders here? If so how has your experience been? I just got my pacemaker (non ICD kind) 3 days ago. The whole thing happened fast so I am still in a haze about it. I have always been somewhat athletic and enjoy outdoor activities. First issues probably started years ago, but I thought exercise and diet would help, no such luck.

Thanks for your reply’s

Once you heal you should be able to do everything you did before, but with more energy. Exercising keeps the heart muscle strong, eating right keeps the arteries clear. All of that is unrelated to our electrical problems. Nothing we did caused it, nothing we could have done differently would have prevented it. And as you learned, it doesn't go away on its own and only a pacer will fix it.

What was your diagnosis? If you pace with rate response, the motorcycle can trick the pacer into thinking you are exercising and raise your rate for you. It's harmless but feels weird if you aren't expecting it. Not everyone uses rate response. If you have av block, then you primarily pace ventricle and you may not even have rate response turned on.

Thanks,

i'll check on the rate response. I have some questions to ask for my 1 week check up. So far from what I can see (using search) it shoulbe about 6+ weeks then slowly progress back to normal.

There Is no reason that a pacemaker would prevent you from riding but there may be some underlying reason that it's not a good idea. Ask your EP.

As far as eating right and exercise, moderation is the key. Endurance athletes have a very high incidence of heart electrical problems. It's not a statistical anomaly, either. There is a direct causal relationship.

My husband has a motorcycle and I am able to ride as a passenger with no issues.  I hope you will still be able to ride!

Hey, i've have my pacemaker for over 20 years (32 years old now) and majority of my 20's ive owned a motorcycle or 2 and rode a bunch of my friends' bikes. I have had 0 issues riding a moto with my pacemaker. it hasn't affected my riding in any way. I have even had my moto when my pacemaker was in my abdomen up until it was moved to my upper chest and neither had a problem riding.

ride safe!
