Heart block

Hi guys,

I went to a&e yesterday as I was worried I had damaged leads by lifting weights. They said they'll think I'll be fine and all looks ok and to just get checked at my next pacing app however the first ECG they did in a&e showed second degree heart block and supraventricular premature complexes... the second they did showed sinus rhythm with sinus tachycardia.. the a&e doctor said to ignore the first ECG and said go with the second and discharged me.

My question - can heart block still show on an ECG even with a pacemaker? or should it disappear with a pacemaker?

I hope this makes sense. My next pacemaker check is on Wednesday so will ask there too. Just had me worried.

What, me worried?

Not sure why you're worried.  You have a pacemaker so your heart block is taken care  of.  You EP would have a better answer but my somewhat educated guess is that, yes, a type-II heart block could be seen on an EKG of someone with a pacemaker.  Understand that a type-II is intermittent.  During the beats when the AV node conducts, you may see the normal heartbeat.  When the AV node fails, the AV signal is replaced by the PM's signal.

Easy to tell a Pacemaker spike on a EKG. It’s straight up and down.

You know you're wired when...

You can hear your heartbeat in your cell phone.

A properly implanted and adjusted pacemaker will not even be noticeable after you get over the surgery.
