SUDDENLY STARTED SETTING OFF STORE SECURITY ALARMS

i have had my pacemaker for 2 1/2 years. For the first time since I got it, I have been setting off store alarms when I walk through. I frequent these stores almost everyday and this has never happened before. I have also had what I would call “an electric day” meaning I feel a little keyed up ... not really stress just a feeling I had when I awoke this morning. I have never set off alarms before. Has this happened to anyone else? Is this normal?

simple solution

Simple...pay before leaving the store.

No, seriously I've had that happen. In fact it happened once at the airport as well. They just have their detectors set too sensitive.

store alarms

I've set off store alarms maybe 4 or 5 times in 25 years. If it's a store you shop at frequently, you might want to talk to them. It's not going to hurt you, mostly it's just annoying

Store Security Alarms

There were some naysayers on this site when I first reported my device was setting off security alarms in certain stores for the past 9 years or so.

When you walk into the store, do not linger near the doorway....just walk briskly past it and the alarm should not sound.  I had to stop and explain why the alarm was sounding on the way INTO the store and sometimes on the way out.

Part of our new normal.

Alarms going off?

There's a lot we don't know about how the human body works--particularly about the body's electromagnetic field(s) which are always in flux.

Back in the old days of mechanical watches, I had to carry mine in my purse. I couldn't wear one on my body. They would just stop, ususally within 20 minutes. And odd-sounding as the problem seems, I wasn't alone. It really wasn't all that rare. I've never had trouble with today's electronic watches.

What's interesting about your story is that for 2 &1/2 years, you didn't set off the alarms. That means the issue can't be the pacemaker alone. What has changed? Your health? Where you live? Are these new stores, or stores with new equipment? What else is different in your life?

Whether your case is normal, I don't really know. However, I see no reason to be "alarmed." (Sorry, I just couldn't help myself.)

Sometimes my Apple Watch will set it off. One purse had a small security white tag tucked in the zippee pocket that set it off. Could be hair pins or clips or jewelry. The metal our pacers are made of are a different kind of metal the detectors are looking for.

Too sensitive

I think Robo is right on the money here. Stores are trying to step up their loss prevention, at the cost of pissing off customers. Brick and mortar stores are going bankrupt right and left. The have to do something to reduce costs. Customer satisfaction isn't as easily measured.

Personally, if I set of an alarm, I keep walking. If they want to detain me, they'll need a lawyer. Corporate and personal.
