I sound like a bomb after sex

Alright, I can't be the only one that experiences this. M/33. I brought it up to my EP once and he shrugged it off.

Post sex after being on top, I can really feel my (dual chamber) Pacer going to town but what trips me (and my partner out) is that if I open my mouth we can very loudly hear my heart beat. I sound like I have a ticking bomb in my throat. It only ever occurs after sex in this specific position though.

Does this happen to anyone else?

For details sake, I'm RV paced and leads are set to bipolar. Mode is DDDR.

The anatomy is quite close

Your left atrium lies right in front of the gullet - your oesophagus - and there's not a lot of tissue between them.  If you are relaxed then your gullet can open and produce an empty, resonating pipe which conducts the impulses of your heart changing shape up that pipe and it makes a noise.  Which is what you are hearing, as your young, strong heart beats powerfully to deliver oxygenated blood to muscles which have been working hard.

You aren't the only person whose heart can be heard through their open mouth after exertion.

You can guess the next bit: keep your mouth closed!

Tick-tock

The things you learn through Pacemaker Club! The way Crusty explains it, it sounds perfectly possible. Thanks Crusty.

People who have lost their larynx and have learned esophageal speech are making deliberate use of the esophagus as a resonance chamber.

But I must admit my first thought about ticking coming from the open mouth was of the crocodile in Peter Pan. The croc wants another bite of Captain Hook, but as soos as he gets close, everyone around is warned by the ticking sound that comes from an alarm clock he once swallowed (in addition to Captain Hook's hand.)

The moral for you, Tim, is if you want to sneak up on someone, be sure to breathe through your nose.

It is just over 10 years since a dual lead device was implanted for complete heart block. It has worked perfectly and I have traveled well near two million miles internationally since then.
