I finalley got out of Australia

Hello fellow pacers!!!!

Well, I wrote a few months ago telling you I was going on a cruise. Well I am happy to say that my husband and I had a wonderful time sailing the South Pacific on the new P&O cruise liner Pacific Dawn. I took out extra cover on health insurance and travelled fine. After having a pacer for over 43 years I finally got out of Australia for the first time. I would dearly love to visit the USA but my cardio informs me that I would never get insurance to go there. I also heard that they will not let me in over there because I a would be considered a major health risk.
Oh well, perhaps somewhere else. Anyhow hope everyone is travelling along fine. Happy pacing and take care

Im glad you had a great holiday.Friends of mine did that trip and had a lovely time.
I remember chatting to you before but I cant remember what part of Aussieland you are from ?
You are such an inspiration! ! I cant believe you have had a pacemaker for so long.Hope you manage to find a way to do that USA trip some time.

Denise,
I would be interested in knowing where you got the impression that you cannot go to the USA, because of your PM.
I travel regularly to the USA from Europe.
The travel insurance company is aware of my PM, and the representative is only concerned about the underlying heart problem. He considers the PM as reducing the risk to my health.
I am 69 yrs. old and feel that my PM is the reason I can enjoy a full and active life.
Talk to a travel Ins. company Rep. they shoul be able to help.

I have traveled internationally several times since getting a PM. Aside from sking for the pat down when singled out of line for the wand, I have never disclosed it having a PM and it has never come up.

I have had a pm for three years and I have been OS yes it does cost more but I have had not problems. I also went on the same P & O trip a few years ago.
I would love to know where abouts in AUST that you come from. I'm from Melbourne

My cardio told me I would experience problems going to the States as they do not take kindly to people with heart problems. To Johng,,,yes ofcourse the pacemakers are not a illness...I am going on what my specialist told me. I did have some problem getting travel insurance to go on the cruise....It took a letter from my GP as well as a letter from my cardio detailing my conditon. Freddo...I come from Sydney and thanks for the message Kaye.

Pacemaker & US

Hi,
Re entering the US with a pacemaker - I woud be astounded if it was a problem - check with local US embassy.

As for insurance - call any big discount travel agency and get a list of insurers - call them & see what rates they would quote you.

Hiring a car and doing an independant road trip in the US is one of the greatest trips on the planet (with or with out a PM)
