Deep Aches After Generator Change

Hi.  One week ago, I had a 'generator' only change. This is my 3rd PM.  While it is not nearly as painful as the last one was, I am getting deep aches and sometimes sharp pains similar to what people describe when they experience angina (which I've never had).  It feels as though it is much deeper than the pocket area.  Is this considered typical for seven days post-op?  Do they tug at/move the leads at all when they change a PM?  Maybe I'm just being overly whiney but wanted a reality check.  I have a follow-up appointment on Monday. Thank you in advance.

Hello Yakkwak,

Monday will be here soon enough and you can get proper advice from your team.

With each generator change, there is bound to be a cumulative effect and the risks I would think could build in regard to potential infection, increased pain and other complications.  I would imagine in some cases too they might have to apply some pressure to the area to remove the device from its pocket after so many years of being embedded into tissue and this is bound to cause pain and discomfort for a couple of weeks.  Hopefully your leads have not been pulled or damaged in any way to cause your discomfort?

However, and you knew this was coming, any new, severe chest discomfort I believe should be assessed quickly, so if you are really concerned over the weekend please seek early advice.

So, you didn't go for the Micra ??

scar tissue

If they've used the same pocket each time, it could be that the scar tissue was holding it in and they had to work to get it out. Are you icing?

They wouldn't mess with the leads beyond testing them.

So you didn't end up with a micra?

No Micra

From what I can recall from a conversation just minutes before propofol administration (so consider the source), I was not a candidate for the Micra because I required too much??? atrial pacing???  That's all I can recall. So, no Micra for me.  Too bad!  Thankful just to have access to the technology that I do.  I will resume icing.  Thank you.

You know you're wired when...

You prefer rechargeable batteries.

I had a pacemaker when I was 11. I never once thought I wasn't a 'normal kid' nor was I ever treated differently because of it. I could do everything all my friends were doing; I just happened to have a battery attached to my heart to help it work.
