sick sinus syndrome problems

Anyone out there with sick sinus syndrome? It took them 8 yrs. to diagnose me, have had my pacer for 5 yrs. and doing fairly well but the bad days are really bad and lately the fatigue is really getting to me. I can't seem to get enough sleep the last few days. I'm sleeping sometimes for 12 hours and am still forcing myself to get out of bed and this isn't like me. Just want to know if others have this same problem at times. Thanks

I also have SSS and ive had it since birth. I didnt get a pacemaker until i was 19 though. It took them a long time to figure it out. I can tell you that i definatly feel fatigued at times. But its alot better than before i got the pacemaker.

Thanks

Thanks for all the helpful comments. It's always good to hear that other people have similar symptoms and I'm not just imagining thiings. Ted, its funny you mention depression as my son who is a clinical pharmacist and very up to date on my health issues has been saying for a while he thinks I should talk to someone. I just moved to Oregon in August after living my whole life in Pittsburgh, PA and 40 years in the same house. I feel happy as a lark to finally be near one of my sons and new baby granddaughter but he tells me I still have been through a lot of stress the last few years and everything has finally caught up with me. I'm a pretty optimistic person so I find it rather strange. At any rate I see my PCP next week and will talk to her about what's going on and I'm due to see the EP in March.
Hopefully, someone can make me feel better.

Sounds like depression

What you are saying sounds like a case of depression. Whether other people have had the same problem or not will not be of any help to you. Get yourself checked out by a competent psychiatrist. Good luck.

SSS

Hi Mitzi

I have SSS, but I have only had pacer for 8 weeks. Looking back, I think, I should have had years ago. (I'm 42 and have had symptoms since childhood.)
I feel like you sometimes, but the specialists told me, it would be natural for a year or so, because the body have to accept the new situation.(when it pace just a little I dont feel bad, but when it pace a lot, I get fatigue. But if you have had the pacer for 5 yrs, you should be over that stadium. Maybee other people inhere can give you advice, but if you dont get more qualified advice inhere, I would go to the specialists. (Considering your system, in Denmark its free, and they worrry a bit more for the pacerpatiens, so its ok to come, when you are wooried.)
Hope you get better soon.

That is what I got my pacemaker for also. I have a hard time sleeping at times but then sometimes that is all I want to do. It goes in cycles for me. I am sure that depression plays a part for all of us at one time or another but the fatigue also may be a real symptom of something different if you usually don't have it.
My bad days are also very bad so I understand what you mean. Then I have a few good days and I think ok it's getting better then it hits me again.
Hopefully your doctor can give you something that will help. Good luck!

Sick Sinus

I got Antny, my PM, last July. On July 15th, I passed out at work. My Doctor told me to get to the E.R. They put me on a monitor for a day. Early the next day, it happened again. Two days later, I got my buddy, Antny.

I had never experienced these symptoms before. The Doctor told me that the palpitations would occur for the rest of my life, and that they could get so bad as to cause a certain amount of fatigue.

Tired!!!

Hi Mitzi, I just looked over your Bio and same as mine was but had Wenchebach Syndrome added to mine. This was back in the late 80s'. Finally got my PM in 1992 and gave me a new life, lots of get up & go. Then over the years I was getting the what I thought was the normal getting old symtoms but my Cardiologist gave me the Cardiolite Stress test which showed up Heart vessel blockage. I have one stent which really did another turn around in my overall health.

I have regular stress tests, another one next Monday. One thing about our bodies is sometimes changes are so gradual that we just don't take notice believing it's normal aging. I would ask your Cardiologist about your fatigue. There are lots of other things but a person's mind sometimes goes into overload from being tired, from being tired!! donb

I also have a hard time sleeping at times and like you there are times that's all I want to do. Just when I think everything is going well I hit the wall again. As you well know it's very frustratingl I didn't know that only 30% of patients with a PM see 100% results and the rest of us just muddle along doing the best we can. However, I certainly couldn't go along with a heart rate of 30 beats a minute either and I do have more good days than bad but when they're bad they are really bad. Hope you feel better soon!
