Pacemaker

I cannot persuade my partner to chat to you all so I do hope you don't mind me relaying his problem as I am obviously worried.

Tonight he moved out of his chair a got a pain in the pace maker area and on moving his arm around got the same pain. He tested it with his fingers and it was still there. Has anyone else had this problem? If yes what did you do ? bearing in mind it is the week end and the hospital is not open.

Do you know what the pain was? Is it something that should be seen to urgently or should he do nothing which is what he wants to do, but as you can imagine I am worried.

Many thanks if you can help.

Peajay.

Pains in pacemaker area

I can't tell you how many times I'd get a short sharp pain in the pacemaker area.  Problem lasted over two years, so your partner is in the same time frame as me.  When it first happened I'd discuss it with my EP but he'd just shrug and go on.  Some people report feelings they can only describe as "ant bites".

I can only attribute it to healing in the pocket area of the pacemaker.  You think something bad is going to happen and no one can really tell you why.  Best explanation I've gotten so far is that it's still the nerves healing in the area.  It eventually goes away.

So if your partner isn't unusually hot or cold, running a fever, the pacemaker pocket isn't red and swollen, or having problems with pacing you can ignore it.  You can always ask the EP the next time you see them, but, like mine, they'll probably shrug and just go on.

Hope everything else is going well for everyone.

Pain in the pacemaker

After two years, this is probably just some scar tissue in or near the pocket that's been stretched more than usual or some other small injury to the pocket.  I wouldn't worry too much about it unless it were a pressing or radiating pain, or lasts days.

Note that we are not doctors here and just answering from our experiences.

Yesterday was my first day mountain biking after my implant. I wiped out several times and everything is fine. There are sports after pacemakers!
