Need Help!!

Dear Folks,
Last time I asked about GERD and Endoscopy. I would like to thanks to everybody who has response.

But just yesterday when I met with Internist and did Ultrasound, founded multiple stones on my Gladbladder (size vary up to 7,4mm). Internist suggested remove Gladbladder soon to avoid any complication.

My question are
1. Does anyone here has experience with Gladbladder removal?
2. What is negative side effect (quality of life) if we don't have gladbladder?
3. Is there Natural therapy for removal Gallstones without operation? I've heard Apple Juice, Epsom Salt and Olive Oil is good combination.

gall bladder

I had my gall bladder removed over 20 years ago and really have had no problems at all. I agree with TraceyE, if you have stones that are causing problems, you'll feel a whole lot better with it out.

Sometimes it can be hereditary. My mom, both my sisters and my daughter have had to have ours removed and have no ill side effects.

Had mine out....

I had my gallbladder out 2 years ago and i am very grateful that it is gone. For it is the reason I found out I had a serious heart condition and needed my pacemaker. I have several stones in my gallbladder and sever sever pain. It was a very easy surgery and i only have 4 very small scars, which is nothing.
After my surgery my Dr gave me some pain relievers but nothing to strong. I mostly used Motrin 800mgs. The only down side about my surgery was the fact that I cant eat fast food anymore with out getting terrible Diarrhea...... Gross I know but very true. Which is difficult for me being that I am a full time college student... But I have had no symptoms since and feel wonderful. I wish you luck in making your decision and if you have any questions please don't hesitate to call.

If you have it removed with labrascopic (probably misspelled) surgery it is no problem. I had mine out that way about 15 years ago. No problems since. I had it done on monday and as I was on a volunter fire dept. I drove a truck to a fire on friday. Did not fight the fire, just sat in the truck and gave orders over the radio. Good luck. Thomas

Are you having gall bladder symptoms or is one blocking a duct? If not, what's the rush to surgery?

Gall bladder helps your body process fat, without it you will be fine, you just have to watch your diet. I

don't think you can get rid of them once you have them other than surgery, but you can sometimes keep it from getting worse by eating a diet low in cholesterol since gallstones are made of cholesterol.

I don't think the size of the stones is the problem so much as where they are. If they block a duct, it's gotta come out. There's not much you can do to control that.

My experience

Hi, Gandara!

I just had my gallbladder removed in June because it was malfunctioning. I didn't have any stones. It is a problem that runs in the women on my mom's side of the family. I had an ultrasound to rule out stones. I also had some blood tests to rule out other possibilities. At first doctors thought I just had acid reflux or even an ulcer and put me on tons of stomach meds. Oh boy. I eventually asked for a HIDA scan test which revealed the gallbladder as the culprit. I had a gastro doc that wanted to do a GERD without even looking at the results of my HIDA scan. I hate to say it, but this doctor was totally against ANY removal of a gallbladder and was looking for easy money doing other tests.

Doctors usually will recommend to remove the gallbladder when there are stones present, blocking a duct, or if the gallbladder is not functioning properly. It is an easy surgery for them and, in my opinion, easy money, too. Not all doctors are like this, though! The gallbladder does serve a purpose, but one can live without it. Many people just change their diets or use other all natural methods to control their cholesterol and, in turn, their gallbladder,. This can help but sometimes it will only offer relief for a short time while the underlying problem will still exist.

If a duct is blocked, it can cause some serious problems. Especially for the pancreas.

I can tell you more about my surgery if you'd like. Private message me or let me know here in this post if you're interested. I'd be happy to respond. I can say that I have been GREAT since the surgery.

Cheers~

Same ultra sound:no surgery

by ElectricFrank - 2009-02-18 01:02:23

Before you decide on surgery do a Google search on Gall Stones and check out both sides of the surgery. My doc found the same thing on a routine ultra sound. He wanted to remove my gall bladder as a preventative. I guess at 78yrs I have been through so many "preventative surgery" cycles that I am wary of them. In my lifetime there have been times of removing tonsils, appendix, installing ear drains, sinus drains, and now gall baldder. I didn't have a choice and had tonsils out when I was 7.

From my reading, a large % of the population has gall stones at some point in life and only a small number ever have problems.

The important thing to realize is that it is your decision. What will you be comfortable with. One suggestion is to get a copy of the release form you will be ask to fill out for the surgery. Don't fall for the old "don't worry about all those risks that are listed". They are listed because they are a real possibility to be considered.

good luck,

frank

How bad is your discomfort? If it is functioning normally, but giving you severe pain, then have it out. If you only have to put up with relatively mild discomfort, and you now know its not a tumor, etc. then it might be wiser to just live with it for now. It was a very good idea to get checked out in order to rule out serious disease. Now its pretty much optional and your call.

If it feels bad

I'm with Gandara. I had mine removed a few years ago and it was pretty easy. I have 4 little marks to show for it and my cholesterol levels are great witout the use of RXs. I confess to taking some fish oil, but that's it.And come to think of it, I just realized why I'm not constipated! ;>

Thank you
