Adding comments/questions to older threads

While doing daily checks for spam messages, I often come across new Pacemaker Club members who have left comments/questions in older threads that may be weeks, months or even years, old. Unfortunately, the Original Poster may never see these late comments/questions, so they often go unanswered, leaving the new member disappointed and without support.
If a new or established member has a question or wishes to make a comment after reading an old post, it might be best to post a new message on our Most Recent Messages page where it can be readily seen.
As most of you will be aware, we are still not being notified when a member makes a new comment on our posts, nor are members being notified of any private messages. Although this problem has been reported, I am uncertain whether it will be fixed.
To help address this problem, members may wish to return periodically to their original message to check for any new comments. Members might also wish to log on/off more frequently when they are expecting private messages, so that these don’t go unnoticed too. Where appropriate, I will continue to contact new members who have left genuine comments/questions in older posts/threads, to encourage them to comment/ask a question in a New Message if they wish.
Despite these frustrations, I hope you will agree that the Pacemaker Club is a valuable resource with many helpful, caring members and we are indeed fortunate to have free access to this special Club.

Thank you for this, Gemita - in an ironic twist, I'd like to tag on to your comment and note that I would like to be able to prepare a post separately in software that offers spell check, then paste my text in and post - any tips on how to easily do this? Do others routinely do this? The couple of times I've tried it seemed a bit too cumbersome to bother and I find that just going with potential typos is easier.

Persephone, I generally use Pages editing software on my iMac or iPad not because of the spell check facility which drives me crazy, but because it is often safer than typing directly into the Pacemaker Club message box which can sometimes time out on me especially if I get interrupted before I have finished. Using Pages I can always go back to my draft at my leisure and check my document before I post. I don't like errors either but that is my perfectionist nature. Yes I think many of us routinely do this. It is simple for me to copy and paste but you may need to delete the extra spaces between paragraphs and at the end of your messages when you are on the Pacemaker Club page. You can always edit your message using the PM Club software if you find that easier. It is user friendly unless it times out.
Tracey_E, yes I agree it would be helpful if posts showed up more like on Facebook, where a new comment bumped it to the top of the New Messages page. Also on my Wish List would be a like button, although it would probably make us all less likely to post a comment.

I have to start doing that also. Several times, I've typed a long, detailed post (or PM, sorry Gemita) and had the software come back and say "Sorry, there was a problem" and *poof* everything is gone. It pisses me off after I've spent maybe a half hour, so I just give up.
Wish lists ar just that. From what I understand, there is zero chance that any upgrades or even fixes are going to be made to the site. It's not even on life support.

If that happens again while attempting to post a response to a New Message (doesn't always work for Private Messages), you could try hitting the back space < in your browser and go back one step where you might find your intact message. Then copy and paste into another editing program to save it.
If you get that awful "Whoops etc" message when trying to post a response, it usually means that the message was deleted at some stage by the Original Poster. Not sure how a message can be deleted and yet still remain in full view on the New Messages page but it has happened to several members.
I agree this site would benefit from an upgrade but that would no doubt cost. I wonder how many of us would be prepared to pay a small annual membership fee to be a member of this Club. Might work to help weed out members whose sole intention it is to cause disharmony by creating multiple user accounts from which to release their spam or inauthentic posts.

I would have no problem paying a membership fee if that meant upgrades to the site! I find this place very valuable and love the interactions with everyone.
I'm still pretty new here, so I have no idea who's keeping the lights on so to speak, but I would imagine an upgrade wouldn't be that costly? I think the biggest risk would be migrating the data or potentially losing a lot of it and having to start over (I am not sure how ProBoards or other popular forum websites handle incoming data from external sources).

Jer, I was actually thinking aloud when I mentioned a membership fee which has been suggested by a number of members, but thank you so much for your kind input. I too love interacting with everyone even on the subject of spam and Covid vaccines! Let us hope that the Club continues to receive monies as it does at the moment from merchandise sales and corporate advertising and let us not forget us, the Members, since we also have an important role to play, so please keep posting

Once a week or so, I go to my own comments and click through them, looking for responses that I may have missed.
It would be nice if posts showed up more like Facebook, where a new comment bumped it to the top.
