Covid vaccine booster

Hi everyone,

I had a mild case of Covid Arm (rash) after my second Moderna shot which cleared up in a few days and as I will soon be due for the Moderna booster I would like to know if there is experience here with having Covid arm after second shot and then getting the Moderna booster shot?  CDC guidelines say you should still get the booster.  I read the previous posts and replies regarding the booster shot here which are helpful.

Covid Vaccine booster

Hello Flo,

Thank you for posting on this important question.  I attach the CDC guidelines which might be helpful to other members.

I note you had a rash known as “COVID arm” following your second Moderna vaccine and as you say, it seems that you should still get the booster if it is recommended.  It appears the vaccination provider may recommend that you get the booster in the opposite arm and might want to observe you for a little longer afterwards.

Both my husband and I had our booster vaccines some weeks ago (Pfizer).  Although I got flu symptoms and a high temperature afterwards, I am pleased I am fully protected again.  My husband sailed through his booster without even a sore arm.  I hope everything goes well for you.

My wife had a severe case of Moderna arm after the second dose. She will not be getting a booster, FWIW.

Gemita, thanks for the reply.  I plan to talk to the provider before I make the appointment to see if they have anything to add.  I will at least ask that they use the other arm.

Agent, thanks and I hope your wife is doing well now.  My concern is that I will have Covid arm again only a worse case.

Moderna Arm

My wife is doing fine but the second shot resulted in a very swollen arm and a lot of pain for a couple of weeks.  She went to an immediate care clinic once, thinking it was really serious. She has  no want of a repeat performance.

Agent, I would do the same as your wife.

I received pfizer as a booster, although I had moderna initially. I had less pain and for shorter duration. For what's its worth, the moderna booster if half the amount as the initial one.

All of the adults in my family have gotten boosted, and now the youngest grand child has gotten his first shot. Yay!

Change manufacturers?

I can understand why you wouldn't want a repeat of "Moderna arm."

According to what I have read, it's allowable to switch to a different manufacturer for the booster shot.

Julros, thank you for the reply and the information and 👍 for your family getting their vaccinations.

Gotrhythm, thank you for the reply and I am considering switching to Pfizer for the booster.
