65 y/o Woman

Hello everyone,

I am a 65 year old woman. Last week I was diagnosed with Bradycardia and had a pacemaker implanted. Came as a complete surprise to me, as I was active and otherwise healthy.

I do feel better now, going on daily short walks.

The welcome mat is out for you! What a surprise! Lots of folks get that unexpected addition to their body in the form of a surprise! I'm glad it was discovered and you now have a protector from going too low.😘🌸

Good that you're walking a bit and on the path to healing. Your life can be better than ever. My pacemaker made me feel energetic-like I drank a pot of coffee. I hadn't realized that I was used to such a slow heartbeat until I got my battery!

Good for you!

So happy for you. I was also shocked when this happened to me as I have always been very healthy. I am 80 but things have gone smoothly. I was able to walk 3 to 4 miles soon after my implant in Dec. 2022. This group has been a blessing for me. I always get great response to any question I ask. Good luck to you.

Good for you Gabby

Good for you. Keep walking and increase your pace if you want to. If not, enjoy everything and everyone around you😎

Welcome

Hi Gaby, I'm 65 too but they discovered I had bradycardia on my 57th birthday in 2014. I got my dual-chamber pacemaker shortly after that and then in November of 2020 Ihad to go back in and get it replaced with a CRT which has 3 leads. This group especially right after my first pacemaker was a Godsend. Everyone is so nice and so helpful. They know exactly what your're going through. Never hesitate to ask questions. I had SO many questions at first anf the other members were very patient and always answered. Good luck and take care.

Feeling the PM

Thank you all for your very encouraging messages.

Question for you: Are you always aware of the pacemaker, or does that go away in time?

I feel it when getting up from bed or from a sitting position, mainly the weight of it.

It has only been 10 days since I got it. Otherwise, feelig good!

Thanks

in time you will forget it is there.  In the begining you are aware and which is normal.  Any addition to ones body we notice.  Then it just becomes a part of your body.

It does what it suppose to do keeping your heart beating.  I never feel it working.  For me the best part of the pacemaker was i stopped falling. found out the reason for the falls was a the  pauseing of the heart beats.

While you are healing do make sure you move your arm, just not above your head or lift anything heavy like milk jug.

Feeling the pacemaker

Yes of course at first you feel the weight of it as well as the fluid from any swelling. I'm almost two years into mine so I don't think of it all day long anymore. It took me seven months to have a day not thinking about it. I do still think of it daily but mostly when going to bed. It doesn't hurt. I just know it's there.

You know you're wired when...

You can feel your fingers and toes again.

I am 100% pacemaker dependant and have been all my life. I try not to think about how a little metal box keeps me alive - it would drive me crazy. So I lead a very active life.
