All you climbers out there.

Sounds like we have a few climbers on this forum, GREAT!

I had my defib implanted in late 2007 and after a couple years of sliding out of shape, I am back training with the goal to compete in the 24 Hours of Horseshoe Hell. A 24 hour lead climbing competition in Arkansas, September 2011.

I am looking for a partner for this event, the three categories are 5.4- 5.9 / 5.9-510D and 5.11 - 5.12+. The event encourages climbers of different abilities to team up, so it doesn’t matter your ability, just your desire to compete in an unforgettable climbing event. I have no aspirations to place anywhere near the top, just want to finish in what ever style. Safety is paramount!

Any takers to join me, a 59 year old, in the first Pacemaker / Defibrillator team?

Might be interested. I am 100% ablated, PM dependent with a defib, 1/3rd of heart dead and an experienced climber. Been climbing 20 years and am the original owner of Hoosier Heights in Bloomington, IN. Have not climbed since last March except now and then easy bouldering in a gym. Have not really been on the sharp end since having the PM/ICD implanted nearly 4 years ago. Where do you live, climb etc?.  I did manage to get up some routes in El Potrero last March and did a 600 foot 6 pitch route there on my 58th B-Day. I will be 59 in March. My goal is to be in good enough shape to do "Royal Arches" in Yosemite at the age of 60 in 2012.

I have been to Horseshoe Canyon once a couple years ago. Spent the day soloing up the easy stuff I could find and even did a few good boulder moves for me. Like to think I am safe and have never dropped a partner. Maybe it can be made to happen.

I don't climb, but would love to hear about your adventure as others would as well. Can you take some pictures so we can show/tell all our members about your adventure. I would like to include a story about this in the next newsletter.

Hi Rolf,
I too had my defib implanted in 2007. I have done a bit of climbing both in the gym and outside. Have just gotten back into it. Have climbed in Joshua Tree, Smith Rock,
Yosemite and other places. Am interested in hearing more about this event...can you direct me to a web page. I live in California.. Will be 55 in April. Looking forward to hearing from you.

I live in North Vancouver BC and have also climbed JT, Smith, City of Rocks plus a few more. Also getting back in the gym and outdoors this year after backsliding the last two years.
