Anyone had fluid around the pacemaker?

My 21 month old son has inflamed tissue and fluid around his pacemaker. He has had it in since he was 2 months old. Although at 5 months it was moved to it's current location on his right side.

Has anyone had fluid around their pacemaker? Do you know what it was caused from? Was it infected? I don't believe his is infected because he hasn't had a fever or anything. Everything is fine, except he looks like he swallowed an orange whole!

I'd like to have more information. So, if anyone has any information that would be great!

He is have a pacemaker "pocket revision" on Monday.

Thank you,

Cindy

Fluid

Hi Cindy.

Sorry, I don't know the answer, but it's good to know that you have an appointment this Monday.

Perhaps if you did a "search" on this site...upper right hand corner of main screen you might find some information, but I think the doctor is the best answer.

Could this be pericarditis? I had this and it is painful when you breathe. By no means am I a doctor, but some of the info. you gave kinda made me think of it. Pericarditis is the swelling and irritation of the pericardium (the thin sac that surrounds your heart). Many times doctors do not know what causes it, but it can be caused from a viral infection. It goes away by taking some meds like NSAID's.

Just a thought!

More info

ela-girl,

My son's pm is in his abdomen. So it isn't pericarditis. Thanks though, I've seen a lot of information on that.

Pookie,

Thank you so much for suggesting that I do a search on it. I did find several posts about fluid around the pacemaker. Of course all of them were adults and theirs are up in there chests, but close enough. But, most of those were all infections. And most refered to it as painful. As far as I know he isn't in pain. Although he has been more crabby than normal lately. But I've been chalking that up to teething.

He is having surgery on Monday. I hope that it all goes well.

Thank you both for your comments. I really appreciate it!!

I have a well tuned pacer. I hardly know I have it. I am 76 year old, hike and camp alone in the desert. I have more energy than I have had in a long time. The only problem is my wife wants to have a knob installed so she can turn the pacer down.
