microwaves

Ive heard so much about microwaves yes and no about them being harmful. My Dr. tells me they dont affect a pacemaker. It must be in my head...but when a family member uses the microwave I feel something in my arm.....am I imagining it or what?
Thank you!!

I've had my pm over a year now and have had no problems with microwaves. Even the one's at work that are who knows how old they have and take forever to heat up anything.

Hi, I've had my second pacemaker 3yrs now I was also told about being aware with microwaves specially those that are 10yrs old, but I've been using my microwave which is over 10yrs old & never had any symptoms when using it.
Hope this ease your peace of mind.

Hi - In spite of the "yeah they are right" posting above by marisab, she also posted an article on the home page entitled "Info on Dangers". The article is from the American Heart Assn. and contradicts what she says in her comment.

I have had my PM since May 2006 and use a micro several times a day: at home, other homes, at the mission where I volunteer (it is a dinosaur microwave someone donated) and have not had any problems whatsoever. When I did ask about microwaves at one of my early PM checks they laughed at me! I also emailed the manufacturer of my PM and received the same answer - they are safe to use with PMs.

You should do a little research and then do what you are comfortable with, not what any of us tell you is okay. Good luck and God bless.

Ovens and Pacemakers

At one time there was concern that leakage from microwave ovens could interfere with certain electronic cardiac pacemakers. There was similar concern about pacemaker interference from electric shavers, auto ignition systems, and other electronic products. Because there are so many other products that also could cause this problem, FDA does not require microwave ovens to carry warnings for people with pacemakers. The problem has been largely resolved since pacemakers are now designed so they are shielded against such electrical interference. however, patients with pacemakers may wish to consult their physicians about this.

So, like it says, be your own judge. I use a microwave constantly, and I have never experienced any discomfort at any time whatsoever. I can't exist without my microwave popcorn!

Happy pacing and microwaving!

I've done a lot of research about pacemakers and microwaves are harmful, my mom doesnt even like me near them when they arent on. My doc (who i've had since i was a baby) has told us (me and my parents) that microwaves are dangerous, so I've done some research and based on about 10 sources, and 4 doctors they all agree on that, so I'm 99.9% sure they are right.

I'm 35 and got my pacemaker a little over a year ago. It definitely is not a burden to me. In fact, I have more energy (which my husband enjoys), can do more things with my kids and have weight because of having the energy.
