Dual chamber st jude medical with af suppressor dr2550

Alan (41) from edinburgh

New to club Had pacemaker in less than two weeks.

Is there anyone out there with same pacemaker as me ?

is it usual to leave the atral suppressor section of this device swithced off for first month?

How does it feel when it is switched on ?

Does it help with af?

How chronic is af?

and Is the maze operation the only way to completely get rid of it?

I had my first technicians appointment and the lady hardly even talked to me - still very much in the dark about how i should be feeling- how do they fine tune you every time you go back does it mean that if they decrease your base beat from 60 to 55 taht make you feel less hyper or do you think that may just be anxiety?

I would love to speak to someone who as had experience with af it really scares me

Sorry to be a winge

everything is going sort of ok healing up nicely

just need more answers

kind regards
allan

Sorry I can't answer most of your questions.I had a Guidant put in 2000 for chronic Afib. I had it all the time & really SOB & tired. EP did an ablation & now paced 100% & feel great. I am not aware of PM now but in 1st few wks thought I felt it but that went away. EP said can't feel it soooo.... Anyway it went away fairly fast. Only felt it when trying to go to sleep & so decided just to go to sleep & now not aware of it at all. The maze operation was not an option for me as my EP said source of Afib in my (L) atrium & @ that time they had to go thru septum (middle divider) of heart it was too dangerous. Now I am not sure if it still is. I am sure somebody here @ club will be able to answer more of your questions. I also think I would speak to the tech & tell him/her you need someone to talk to you. If he/she will not, ask for a supervior & tell them you want more info & another person. We have enough to think about without having getting the silent treatment.

Good luck. I am sure you will get a lot of help from our great club members.

Would this help???

Hi Allan, I was just wondering, have you looked at earlier posts on this site regarding your afib and PM? It might help until some of our members can answer your specific questions. If you haven't already done so, just click on "Search" and type in Atrial Fib. Please take care and be well, Carol

Keep asking

Hi Allan,
I had a dual chamber pm fitted at a Hull Royal Inf in March (Biotronic), and I have to say the technicians I have seen have been great. Had my first check at six weeks, then went back a couple of times, the last time at my own insistence as I was not happy with my upper setting ( not high enough for exercise, causing extreme breathlessness)- the technician I saw then was great, asked me loads of questions about my lifestyle and pm problems etc, and explained in laymans terms how it all works, then reset me accordingly - I,ve been fine since. Keep going back if you feel you need to and ask questions - but try not to get too bogged down with all the technicalities at this stage-it's early days yet. Hope all goes well for you - it does get better with time and you do get to a point where you forget you've got a pm, I promise!!!

A pacemaker suddenly quitting is no more likely to happen than you are to be struck by lightening.
