Life is Almost back to normal

Hi I had a pacemaker fitted in October 2007 I was 41 years old and had sick sinus syndrome diagnosed and paraxsymal atrial fibrillation and had had my thyroid gland removed by radio actve iodine and now i take thyroxine and baby aspirin in morning and a small beta blocker (atenelol) last thing at night.

The first six months after the operation(which was very quick totally painless by the way) i must be honest I would wake up scared and found the whole idea quite terrifying have a foreign body within my body. But now i hardly ever think about my pacemaker and on my last two visits for pacemaker check ups i have been told that my body has been in af for less than a tottal of 8 mins combined over whole year.

I know there are people on here who are not as lucky as me and are really suffering and my heart and best wishes goes out to them all and wish for their health too improve as well.

But for all the people out there who are facing a pacemaker for the first time please dont be too scared as your life can almost fully return to normal.I was almost 17 stone 4llbs and now i exercise at gymn six days a week i find power walking 7.2 speed the best thing as running can set off af and make me breathless i have lost nearly 2 stone.

so positive thinking guys and although degenerative atrial afib, stroke and decreased life expectancy are all there in future for me right now it is all working and i feel great.

I hope this can help some others and give a little hope

my thoughts and love go out to all my fellow pacers as only we know what it is really like

We love to hear success stories. What a great story you have to tell.

You are a 'spray of sunshine' for future PM clients. My ablation/PM implant was 10/09 and, I too, forget I ever had the implant nor do I even think about it anymore.

Let us hear more great things from you,

Love to hear of others out there who have decided that just because we have screwed up electrical systems our lives are not over. Yea, I have been told afib will probably get worse, stroke is a possibility due to the afib and all that can lead to other issues but when I look at pacers like Electric Frank, Patch and Allan up here I keep thinking that my life is better than it was a year and 5 days ago when I had my pacer implanted. I don't pass out anymore, I know what is wrong and I am working to fix what I can, nature is in charge of the rest and I can't do a damn thing about that, but I sure as hell won't give up without a fight.

great news!
